The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearson throws a leg kick but Koniu checks it.

Koniu moves into range and clinches up with Pearson.
Pearson holding his opponent close, against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Pearson.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Koniu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Pearson swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Pearson lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Koniu backwards.


It looks like Japa Koniu has been cut.
Pearson makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Koniu misses with a knee to the head.
Koniu goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Pearson is pushing Koniu up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Pearson misses with a hook to the ribs.
Pearson lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Koniu told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Koniu misses with a punch to the body.
Koniu lands a right hand that snaps the head of Pearson backwards.
Pearson misses with some punches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Koniu.
Koniu's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Koniu misses with a punch on the inside.
Pearson lands a hook that snaps the head of Koniu backwards.
Pearson scores with a nice hook to the head.

Pearson breaks from the clinch.
Koniu slips under a jab.
Pearson fakes the leg kick and cracks Koniu in the body.
Koniu keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Japa Koniu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That kick from Pearson tenderised Koniu's leg. Koniu is trying to keep his angry face on.
Koniu throws a head kick that misses
and Pearson counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Koniu badly! Pearson follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Koniu out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Pearson finished him against the cage.
