Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Makres (ranked 2107 p4p, 268 weight class) and Krisko Kurtev (ranked 2863 p4p, 345 weight class). Makres comes into the arena with SABATON - Coat of Arms blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Makres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Krisko Kurtev!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurtev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Makres's waist but Makres gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kurtev off to one side.
Makres looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kurtev fails with the takedown
and Makres counters with a nice kick to the body.
Kurtev gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Makres.
Jab, jab by Makres - just one landing.
Kurtev looking to score a takedown here. Makres is defending well but Kurtev drives through and ends up in Makres's guard.
Makres looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kurtev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Makres wants to stand up but Kurtev is controlling him.
Kurtev throwing strikes from guard but Makres blocks nicely.
Kurtev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Makres. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Makres wants to stand up but Kurtev is controlling him.
Makres had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kurtev defends it easily.
Makres throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Kurtev trying to control the position from guard on top but Makres is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kurtev makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Makres looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Kurtev is defending well. Makres quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Kurtev has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Makres celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

After the fight, John Makres was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
