Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Lahey (ranked 24441 p4p, 575 weight class) and Kelly Rush (ranked 24584 p4p, 558 weight class). Rush has chosen Diary of Jane as his entrance music. Trevor Lahey could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Kelly Rush's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Trevor Lahey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Kelly Rush!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lahey dives in for a single leg takedown but Rush sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Rush slaps away a takedown attempt from Lahey, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Lahey moves into the clinch successfully.
Lahey tries for a takedown but Rush manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trevor Lahey. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lahey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rush misses with a wild body shot.
Rush has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Lahey is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Lahey wants to clinch but Rush slips to the side
and Rush counters with a lovely shot to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rush has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lahey uses from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rush is looking for a triangle but Lahey pushes his legs off easily.

Lahey trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rush is pulling down on Lahey's head. It's preventing any offense from Lahey, at least for the moment.
Rush controls Lahey momentarily but Lahey frees himself.
Rush tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Lahey counters with a head kick.
Rush scores with the left hand. Lahey knows he should have avoided that one.
Rush tries to clinch but Lahey is having none of it.
Lahey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Lahey thumps Rush with a low kick.

Lahey closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rush's guard.

Rush is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rush looking for a guillotine here but Lahey defends easily.

Lahey wants to pass the guard but Rush is defending well.
Rush makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rush.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rush controls Lahey momentarily but Lahey frees himself.
Lahey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lahey wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kelly Rush will probably get the nod.

Lahey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lahey shoots in and drives through. Rush sprawls well.

Rush ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rush throws a sloppy head kick and Lahey moves out of range easily.

Rush closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lahey's guard.

Lahey pushes Rush off and gets back to his feet.
Rush pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Lahey back to the cage. Rush follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Lahey wants to clinch.

Rush goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Lahey has Rush up against the cage in a clinch.

Rush lands a takedown into guard.
Lahey not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Lahey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rush is one step ahead there.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Lahey has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rush is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lahey.
Rush content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Lahey moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Lahey dives in and grabs Rush's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rush pushes down on Lahey's head and hops out.
Rush fails with a takedown attempt.
Rush tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lahey tries to close the distance and clinch but Rush swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rush changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

and Lahey takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Kelly Rush seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lahey throws a right and a left that Rush avoids nicely.

Lahey lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Rush throws a head kick but Lahey moves out of range.
Lahey fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Lahey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rush's waist but Rush gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lahey off to one side.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rush darts in looking for a takedown but Lahey gets double underhooks and turns Rush into the cage.
Lahey thinks about countering with a body kick.
Rush shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rush tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lahey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rush keeps the fight on the outside.
No luck for Lahey with that takedown attempt.
Lahey fails in his attempt to clinch.

Lahey misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rush shoots in looking for a takedown but Lahey manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rush's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rush shoots in for a takedown but Lahey shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Lahey changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rush tries to avoid it but Lahey manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rush to the ground. Rush escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Lahey gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rush avoids a wild elbow strike from Lahey.

Lahey gets control of Rush's arms and successfully pulls guard. Lahey will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rush makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lahey throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Trevor Lahey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kelly Rush is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Rush is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

I think Rush has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
