PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Iain Tower (ranked 27 p4p, 4 weight class) and Kvame Zulu (ranked 41 p4p, 6 weight class). Tower comes into the arena with Kanye - Power blaring out of the sound system. Zulu has chosen Big Badaboom as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Iain Tower!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kvame Zulu!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zulu misses with an attempted mid kick.
Tower throwing a counter right hand but Zulu manages to avoid it.
Zulu looks to score with a jab to the body but Tower is just out of range.

Zulu has taken the fight to the clinch.
Tower lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Zulu backwards.


It looks like Kvame Zulu has been cut.
Tower tries to work over Zulu's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Zulu lands a right hand that snaps the head of Tower backwards.
Zulu misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Tower tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Zulu's elbow.

Tower breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Zulu uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tower.
Zulu looks like he wants to counter punch here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zulu looks for the body kick but Tower saw that one coming.
Zulu has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Zulu tries to land a front kick but Tower steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
The fighters circling - Tower throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Zulu connects with a good right hand that stumbles Tower. Tower circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Tower slips a jab from Zulu.
Zulu connects with a looping right hand.
A shot to the body from Zulu misses
enabling Tower to counter with a crisp jab.
Zulu misses with a body shot.
Tower smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Tower throws a leg kick
and Tower takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Zulu scores with a leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tower misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Zulu stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zulu throws a body shot but no joy.
Zulu doesn't manage to clinch there - Tower circles away.
Tower looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Tower looks to throw a body kick
and Zulu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Tower tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Zulu digs a good hook to Tower's body.

Zulu lands a big uppercut and Tower crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Tower looks OK. Zulu waves Tower back to his feet!


It looks like Iain Tower has been cut.

Zulu turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Tower lands a nice leg kick that just misses Zulu's sensitive parts.
Zulu goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Zulu missing with a left hand there. Tower was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Zulu rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Tower counters with a three punch combo that has Zulu backing up. Zulu nods at Tower to acknowledge the strikes.
Zulu thuds his shin into the meat of Tower's side.
Zulu connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Tower's hands.
Zulu slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tower lands with a kick to the ribs.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A slapping leg kick lands for Zulu.
Zulu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Tower takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Tower uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Zulu.
Tower is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Tower blocks a low kick nicely.
Zulu on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Tower throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kvame Zulu dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Zulu lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Zulu, right into the meat.
A chopping leg kick lands by Zulu.
Tower throws a right and a left that Zulu avoids nicely.
Tower tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Zulu cracks Tower with a right hand to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zulu lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Zulu tries to land a front kick but Tower steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Tower appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Tower looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Tower tries a head kick but it misses.

Zulu looks to land a body kick but Tower moved away.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Zulu.
Tower takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Tower throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Zulu throws a body punch but Tower moves out of range.
Tower throwing a counter right hand but Zulu manages to avoid it.
Tower misses with an uppercut
and Zulu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Tower moves out of range of the body kick from Zulu.
Zulu with a nice cross.

Zulu throws a nice inside leg kick.
Zulu misses with a hook. Tower ducked under it nicely.
Tower scores with a hook to the body. Zulu takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Zulu throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Tower counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


That has opened up Kvame Zulu's cut even more.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zulu looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Tower tried to counter with a leg kick but Zulu avoided it.
Zulu throws a body shot but no joy.
Tower appears to be looking for a big counter.
Zulu will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Zulu shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Tower takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Zulu throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tower sees it coming and avoids it easily.
It looked like Tower wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Zulu drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Zulu connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Kvame Zulu seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Zulu cracks Tower with a right hand to the side of the head.
Tower uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Zulu.
Zulu lands a nice looking body shot.

Tower lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Zulu at a distance.
Kvame Zulu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tower feints a jab promting Zulu to slip. Tower then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Zulu slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zulu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Zulu connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Zulu fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Tower has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Tower is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Zulu misses with a hook. Tower ducked under it nicely.

Kvame Zulu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The cut above Kvame Zulu's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Tower's legs have taken a beating and he's really slowing down as a result.
Zulu lunges at Tower with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Tower's hand.
Tower throws a solid leg kick but Zulu takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Tower.
Tower takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Zulu scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Tower tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Tower is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Zulu.
Tower bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Zulu's head backwards.
Zulu moves away from the strike by Tower.

Zulu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tower thuds his right hand into Zulu's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


Kvame Zulu's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Kvame Zulu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Iain Tower!
