Wing Wang's family fled mainland China for Hong Kong in the aftermath of the 1989 Tian'anmen Protests, due to his father's activities as a human rights activist. Growing up on Lantau Island, Wing enjoyed weekend cockfighting events and hanging out at the local boxing gym after class. After dropping out of school at the age of 17, Wing decided to devote himself to boxing, and from there, eventually crossed over to MMA.
