Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Lauzon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Free Agent Steel Penn! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steel Penn waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lauzon. Steel Penn tries a head kick but it misses.

Ben Lauzon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Steel Penn stalks Lauzon and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lauzon's face. Lauzon staggers backwards, shaken. Steel Penn throws a right hand that Lauzon ducks under and follows up with a left that Lauzon also avoids with ease. Lauzon shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Steel Penn pushes Lauzon off but Lauzon dives into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. You can see the frustration on Steel Penn's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Steel Penn tries to buck Lauzon off but Lauzon is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lauzon stands up and beckons Steel Penn to his feet. Lauzon bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Steel Penn's head. Steel Penn gets caught flat footed, as Lauzon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Lauzon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Steel Penn is keeping the position for now. Lauzon stopping the sweep attempt from Steel Penn.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lauzon gets to his feet - Steel Penn follows without any prompting. Steel Penn pushes Lauzon up against the cage in a clinch. Lauzon misses with a knee to the head. Lauzon throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Steel Penns head. Lauzon lands a good knee to the midsection. Steel Penn won't want to take too many of those. Steel Penn scores with an uppercut up the middle. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Lauzon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The fight stays on the outside here - Lauzon looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Lauzon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Lauzon sitting and controlling from the half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steel Penn is not content to let Lauzon control the position. Lauzon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Steel Penn's head. Steel Penn is looking for a sweep. Lauzon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Steel Penn wants to get back to his feet. Steel Penn is trying to get back to full guard. Steel Penn trying to get back to full guard but Lauzon takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Lauzon working for a guillotine from mount but Steel Penn is in no mood to give up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lauzon is looking to stand but Steel Penn has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Steel Penn wants to control but Lauzon is having none of it. Lauzon looking to sit in guard and control but Steel Penn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Steel Penn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Lauzon wants to stand but Steel Penn is controlling the position. Steel Penn with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Lauzon is controlling Steel Penn's posture. Steel Penn wants to stand but Lauzon is controlling his posture from full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lauzon wants to stand and escape but Steel Penn is having none of it. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sorokov shoots in for a takedown but Flanagan shows good takedown defense. Flanagan appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. Sorokov blocks a head kick by Flanagan.

Flanagan ducks under a wild hook from Sorokov. Flanagan fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sorokov has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Sorokov throws an overhand right that lands on Flanagan's shoulder, as Flanagan tries to avoid the shot. A bone on bone clash there as Sorokov blocks the leg kick.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harada lands with an uppercut that bounces Brophy off the cage and back into range. Brophy connects with a single shot there. Brophy throws a hook but Harada avoids it easily. Harada keeps the fight on the outside. Brophy connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Harada bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Brophy has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Scotty's Yard in the buildup to the fight. Brophy takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Brophy tries to close the distance and clinch but Harada swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Harada takes one on the button. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Harada. Harada throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Brophy counters with a lovely straight right hand! A nice inside leg kick there by Brophy. That's going to slow Harada down. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Harada connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Brophy momentarily.

Brophy throws a leg kick which misses Harada's front leg but catches the back leg as Harada tries to avoid it. Brophy lands with an uppercut that bounces Harada off the cage and back into range. Brophy takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harada misses with a straight left. Brophy lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Brophy takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Harada uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Brophy. Harada drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Brophy lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Harada. Harada throws a leg kick which misses Brophy's front leg but catches the back leg as Brophy tries to avoid it. Brophy closes the distance and clinches. A nice right hand lands inside from Brophy. Harada working aggressively here.
Brophy working some nice short punches in the clinch. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Brophy misses with a hook to the ribs.
Brophy swings wildly with an uppercut but Harada uses good head movement to avoid it. Brophy lands a big right hand that drops Harada! The killer instinct kicks in and Brophy finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Brophy!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams takes a shot right to the bread basket. Patrick throws a lazy right hand but Williams sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Williams waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Patrick. Patrick has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Killer Instinct in the buildup to the fight. A big right from Williams misses. Patrick is looking for a counter combo. Patrick connects with a crisp jab. We've been informed that Williams has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Williams drops Patrick with a left right combo! Williams follows him down to the ground into side control.
It looks like Jean Claude Patrick has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Patrick is letting Williams control him for a moment. Patrick is looking to reverse the position. Patrick tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Williams presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Patrick has given up his back. Will we see Williams going for some submissions?
Williams is riding his opponent, not letting Patrick buck him off.

Williams is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Patrick is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Williams slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Both fighters circle each other, looking for something big. Williams moves in and throws an overhand right. That hurt Patrick! Williams continues to tee off on Patrick, landing with a left and a right! Williams connects with a right hand that leaves Patrick sleeping against the cage! What a finish by Williams!

Mateus Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gracie tries to clinch but Johnson is having none of it. Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Johnson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Johnson pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Gracie tries to clinch but Johnson moves out of range. Johnson misses the jab. Johnson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gracie. Gracie misses with a jab to the body

It looks like Mateus Gracie has been cut. Johnson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Johnson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Johnson avoids it really well and circles away. Gracie shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Johnson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. DeShawn Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mateus Gracie.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie jabs at Johnson's body. Johnson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. DeShawn Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Johnson takes one to the side of the head.

Johnson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Gracie thumps Johnson with a low kick. Gracie misses with a takedown and Johnson counters with a straight right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gracie throws a left and a right that both miss
enabling Johnson to counter with a crisp jab. Gracie throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Johnson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Johnson misses with a few strikes there.
Gracie doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Gracie looks to score with a jab to the body but Johnson is just out of range. Johnson misses with a low kick.
Gracie is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Johnson connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gracie. Gracie circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Gracie throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Johnson appears to be looking for a big counter. Johnson looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Gracie lands a front kick. Gracie closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Johnson's guard. Gracie throwing strikes but missing. Gracie throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Gracie throws a big right hand that misses. Gracie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Johnson looking to control.
Gracie throws an elbow that misses. Johnson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gracie's guard. Nice move by Johnson!
Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground. Johnson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Johnson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gracie to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Johnson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gracie pulls down on the head and he's put Johnson to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mateus Gracie! Mateus Gracie is the new welterweight champion! Mateus Gracie decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
