We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Oyelowo has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elim Garak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiroshi Yamasaki!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Yamasaki is defended easily by Garak.
Garak bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Garak misses with a right hand

and Yamasaki decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Garak's guard.

Yamasaki is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Garak is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Garak has escaped and now he's on top!

Garak looks up at the clock and then as Yamasaki takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Garak smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Yamasaki is trying to control Garak's posture but Garak avoids it.
We've been hearing that Garak has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Garak has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Yamasaki working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Garak doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Garak manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Yamasaki can't keep his opponent in guard - Garak advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Yamasaki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Garak sprawls well initially but Yamasaki persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Yamasaki is trying to work for a kimura but Garak is defending well.
Garak moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Yamasaki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Garak is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Yamasaki has his hands clasped together but Garak extends and breaks Yamasaki's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Garak.

After the fight, Elim Garak was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
