Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Franz Nicholas (ranked 3467 p4p, 3147 weight class) and Pan Thongrak (ranked 412 p4p, 380 weight class). Thongrak has chosen Muay Thai Traditional as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franz Nicholas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pan Thongrak! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nicholas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Thongrak.
We've been told by Nicholas's head coaches at New York Public Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Nice body kick from Thongrak. Thongrak throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Thongrak takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Nicholas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Thongrak moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Thongrak looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Nicholas throws a hook but Thongrak avoids it easily. Thongrak's jab looks to have found its range, popping Nicholas under the eye. Some wild striking there from Thongrak.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A looping hook to the body misses from Nicholas. Thongrak does a little dance to reset his feet. Nicholas fails to land with a series of punches.
Nicholas takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Nicholas connects with a body shot that sends Thongrak's belly button to the back. Nicholas getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Thongrak throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Nicholas. Thongrak does a little dance to reset his feet. Thongrak bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Thongrak fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Nicholas scores with a jab to the head.

and Thongrak counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Thongrak tries to land a body kick and Nicholas connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Thongrak is rocked! Franz Nicholas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thongrak throws a leg kick and Nicholas counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Thongrak out cold! What a finish! Nicholas is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!

With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Klas Jonsson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tallulah Begaye! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jonsson misses with a wild combination.
Begaye tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Begaye shoots for a double leg takedown but Jonsson sprawls well. He's pushed Begaye's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Jonsson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Jonsson tests Begaye's chin there with a solid looking shot. Jonsson thows a leg kick but Begaye checks it and Begaye counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Begaye with a flurry of punches that miss. Jonsson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Begaye lands a couple of digs. Begaye has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jonsson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Jonsson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Begaye on the ground. Begaye is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Begaye has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Begaye is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Begaye is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Jonsson showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Jonsson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Begaye has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jonsson has managed to get both his arms back between Begaye's legs - danger averted. Jonsson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Begaye's guard. Begaye is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Begaye has control of Jonsson's left arm, preventing Jonsson from doing any damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Begaye pulls Jonsson in close to prevent any damage. Jonsson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Begaye, up you get! Jonsson throws a head kick that misses. A nice inside leg kick there by Jonsson. That's going to slow Begaye down. Jonsson throws a sloppy head kick and Begaye counters by moving into the clinch. Begaye is working for takedown but Jonsson is calmly controlling the position for now. Jonsson fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Jonsson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Begaye is trying to drag Jonsson to the mat but Jonsson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Klas Jonsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tallulah Begaye. Jonsson lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Begaye or not.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jonsson lands a nice shot to the body. Begaye looks winded! Begaye goes for a takedown attempt but Jonsson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jonsson looks to land a combination. Begaye sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. It looks like Tallulah Begaye has been cut. Jonsson forces Begaye back against the cage and clinches. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A quick uppercut on the inside from Jonsson. Jonsson lands with a right to the head. A nice right hand lands inside from Jonsson. A short right from Jonsson. Jonsson breaks from the clinch.
Jonsson throws a quick head kick that knocks Begaye silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! Jonsson is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sitsongrit throws a push kick but Moltisanti slaps the foot to one side. Moltisanti throws a hook but Sitsongrit avoids it easily. Sitsongrit fails to land with a series of punches.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Sitsongrit. Moltisanti shrugs it off though. Moltisanti fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sitsongrit manages to avoid it. Sitsongrit closes the distance and pushes Moltisanti back into the cage. Sitsongrit lands with a right to the head. Sitsongrit lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Moltisanti. That did some damage! Moltisanti missing with a left hand there. Sitsongrit was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Sitsongrit ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Sitsongrit fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Moltisanti has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Sitsongrit gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Moltisanti is looking to advance position but Sitsongrit has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Moltisanti tries to get back to half guard but can't. Moltisanti is working hard here to advance position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Moltisanti looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Moltisanti jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sitsongrit manages to avoid the submission attempt. Moltisanti is working to tighten his grip on Sitsongrit's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sitsongrit has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Moltisanti is really squeezing tight and eventually Sitsongrit passes out! Moltisanti breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Reis is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Rivers works the jab nicely. Reis does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. As Reis backs away, Rivers returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. and Reis counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rivers thinking. Reis throws out a loose jab but Rivers uses good head movement to avoid it. The fighters circling - Rivers throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Reis misses with a kick to the body.
Reis throws a wild body kick that Rivers sees coming a mile off. A low kick from Rivers misses enabling Reis to counter with a crisp jab. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Reis defending well as Rivers loads up on a big left hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Reis's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rivers connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Reis scrambles back to his feet. Reis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rivers finds it's way round the side to connect with Reis's head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rivers uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Reis. A big left from Reis misses. Rivers is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. A nice leg kick from Rivers, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rivers connects with an inside leg kick. Rivers throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Rivers fails to land with a series of punches.
A nice side step and Reis releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Reis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rivers. Reis steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Rivers fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Reis has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Reis throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Rivers misses with a straight right. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Reis might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Rivers has got the better of the exchanges. Gong's jab looks to have found its range, popping River under the eye. James River seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. River shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. River not landing any meaningful shots this time. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with River in particular looking to stall. River is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. River is trying to control the action in half guard but Gong is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Gong throws a push kick but River slaps the foot to one side. River has Gong up against the cage in a clinch.
River works on Gong's body with a couple of short punches. River manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. And that's the end of the fight! James River comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well River has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
