Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erik Friedrichsen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 28 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Dimitrov! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Friedrichsen throws a hook but Dimitrov avoids it easily. Friedrichsen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dimitrov sees it coming and avoids it easily. Erik Friedrichsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Friedrichsen moves out of range of the strikes. Friedrichsen swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. We've been told by Friedrichsen's head coaches at Mello MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Dimitrov slips a jab from Friedrichsen. Friedrichsen tries to land a front kick but Dimitrov steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. A good leg kick by Friedrichsen. Dimitrov blocks a jab. Dimitrov throws a hook but Friedrichsen blocks it. Friedrichsen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Some wild striking there from Friedrichsen.
Dimitrov walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
It looks like Daniel Dimitrov has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Friedrichsen tests Dimitrov's chin there with a solid looking shot. Friedrichsen catches Dimitrov with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Friedrichsen lands a nice shot that snaps Dimitrov's head back.
Friedrichsen just misses with a punch to the body.
Friedrichsen thuds a left hand into Dimitrov's body. Friedrichsen throws a looping overhand right but Dimitrov ducks down to avoid it. A nice side step and Dimitrov releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Friedrichsen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dimitrov manages to avoid it. Dimitrov takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
That has opened up Daniel Dimitrov's cut even more. BOOM! Friedrichsen lands a beautiful left hook that drops Dimitrov. Dimitrov tries to recover but Friedrichsen is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Dimitrov lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Erik Friedrichsen! A relieved looking Erik Friedrichsen thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
