PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Edison Atunes (ranked 14 p4p, 73 weight class) and Sergey Shipilov (ranked 2 p4p, 11 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edison Atunes!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Sergey Shipilov!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Atunes. Shipilov does a little dance to reset his feet.
Atunes thows a left - swing and a miss!
Shipilov needs to keep his hands up - Atunes had a free shot at his head there.
A head kick misses from Atunes.
It seemed like Shipilov was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Atunes throws a low kick but Shipilov moves out of range easily.
Shipilov tries a head kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Atunes misses with a head kick.
Atunes finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Shipilov looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Atunes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Shipilov! But no joy.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Atunes throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Atunes tries to score with a low kick but Shipilov moves his leg out of the way.
Atunes on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Atunes wants to clinch up but Shipilov keeps it at a distance.

Atunes walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

and Shipilov counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Atunes buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Atunes walks into a stiff left hand from Shipilov.

It looks like Edison Atunes has been cut.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Atunes lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Shipilov has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Shipilov and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
It seemed like Shipilov was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Atunes misses with a wild body shot.
As Atunes backs off Shipilov throws a huge counter combo but Atunes manages to avoid it all.
Shipilov fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Atunes lands a jab.
Atunes is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Shipilov throws a fast counter high kick but Atunes manages to duck under it in time.
Atunes looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Shipilov throws a head kick but Atunes moves out of range.
Atunes swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Atunes will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Shipilov throws out a counter right but Atunes avoids it with no problem.
Atunes moves into range and connects with a jab.
Atunes throws a looping overhand right but Shipilov ducks down to avoid it.
Shipilov displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Atunes throws out the jab.

Shipilov catches Atunes with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Atunes throws a nice outside leg kick.
Atunes thows a leg kick but Shipilov checks it
letting Shipilov counter with a right hand.
Shipilov takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Atunes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shipilov moves away.
Shipilov is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Shipilov has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Shipilov slips under a jab from Atunes.

Atunes swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Atunes moves in looking to clinch but Shipilov pushes him off.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Edison Atunes will probably get the nod.

Shipilov looks to land a left hand but Atunes moved out of range nicely.

and Shipilov counters with a solid body kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Shipilov blocks the leg kick.
Shipilov throws out a counter right but Atunes avoids it with no problem.
Shipilov might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Shipilov throws a series of strikes that have Atunes backpedaling.

Shipilov drops Atunes with a big left hand and mounts him. Atunes is in big trouble!

Atunes is rocked!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shipilov is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Oh Atunes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've been told by Atunes's head coaches at Casa Steel that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Atunes misses with a low kick.
Shipilov is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Atunes with a body shot.
Atunes seems to have got his legs back now.
Shipilov steps in with a hook that catches Atunes right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Shipilov follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Atunes looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sergey Shipilov!

During a confident post fight interview, Sergey Shipilov thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
The defeated Edison Atunes had this to say: 'Who the fuck let Karter into my camp again? '.
