PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maurice Rollo (ranked 1385 p4p, 3693 weight class) and Mawashi Geri (ranked 34 p4p, 156 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rollo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Brass Monkey. Mawashi Geri has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maurice Rollo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mawashi Geri!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rollo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Geri defends well and Rollo ends up having to push Geri into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Rollo jumps guard but Geri stands there with Rollo around his waist. Rollo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rollo has Geri pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Geri manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maurice Rollo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Geri prevents a takedown attempt there.
Rollo has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Geri breaks the clinch.
Rollo shoots in looking for a takedown. Geri tries to sprawl out of it but Rollo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Geri manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rollo gets a double leg takedown into Geri's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Geri can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rollo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rollo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rollo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rollo wants to control from the top but Geri keeps moving.
Geri wants to stand but Rollo is controlling the position.

Geri is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Rollo presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Geri wants to get back to striking at distance but Rollo won't allow it.
Rollo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Geri just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rollo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rollo manages to end up in side control.
Geri is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Geri really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rollo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rollo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Geri keeps working.
Geri is trying to get back to his feet.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Rollo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rollo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Geri tries to escape back to his feet but Rollo has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Geri's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Geri is tapping! Rollo saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Maurice Rollo!
In his post fight interview, Maurice Rollo started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
