PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zahbit Lovanov (ranked 53 p4p, 367 weight class) and Beau Canada (ranked 4 p4p, 19 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zahbit Lovanov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Beau Canada!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lovanov keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Canada.
A little feinted left hand from Lovanov on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Lovanov stuns Canada with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Lovanov darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Lovanov lands with an overhand left.

It looks like Beau Canada has been cut.
Lovanov throws a right hand that misses
and Lovanov takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Canada lands a nice shot to the body.
Canada with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lovanov to score with a decent uppercut.
Canada looks to land a right hand but Lovanov moved out of range.
Lovanov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Canada was well out of range. Poor timing from Lovanov.
Canada missing with a left hand there. Lovanov was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Canada bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Lovanov's head backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Canada cracks Lovanov with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Lovanov blocks the body kick.
Lovanov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lovanov wants it to stay on the feet.
Canada throws a hook but Lovanov avoids it easily.
Lovanov misses with a jab, cross combination.

Canada swings and misses with a shot to the body
enabling Lovanov to counter with a crisp jab.
Lovanov connects with a nice looking jab.
Beau Canada seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice defenses there by Lovanov.
Canada closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lovanov circles away.
Canada lands a right hook to the body.
Canada thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Lovanov if he has to take too many more of those.

Canada closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lovanov tries to improve position but can't.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Canada is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Canada looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Lovanov wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Lovanov has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Canada accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Canada wants to control from the top but Lovanov keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lovanov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Canada's guard.

Lovanov chips away with some ground and pound.
Lovanov stands up over Canada, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Canada looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lovanov wants to control from the top but Canada keeps moving.
Lovanov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lovanov's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Canada wants to sweep here but Lovanov controlling him for the moment.
Canada keeps trying to improve his position.

Lovanov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Canada throws a jab but it's blocked by Lovanov.
A counter left hand to the body from Lovanov misses its target.
Lovanov with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Decent striking displayed by Lovanov there.
Lovanov throws a right hand that Canada ducks under and follows up with a left that Canada also avoids with ease.
Canada takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Lovanov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Canada.
Canada takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Canada has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lovanov finds it's way round the side to connect with Canada's head.
Canada misses with a hook

and Lovanov counters with a right hand that sends Canada tumbling to the canvas! Can Lovanov finish him? He dives into Canada's guard looking to do just that!

Canada is rocked!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Zahbit Lovanov dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Beau Canada's cut.
That's time! Lovanov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Canada is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Lovanov doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Canada crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Canada's bad books for that mishap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Zahbit Lovanov!
A very excited looking Zahbit Lovanov made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
