PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Glen Hoddle (ranked 941 p4p, 775 weight class) and Welter Weight (ranked 121 p4p, 101 weight class). Weight comes into a darkened arena with his song building. They say that I'm Crazy kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Glen Hoddle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Welter Weight!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoddle fails in his attempt to clinch.

A little jabbing left from Weight on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Weight misses with a wild combination.
Hoddle misses with a takedown attempt - Weight sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hoddle jabs Weight right on the nose. Weight blinks but takes it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Some wild striking there from Weight.
Welter Weight is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Weight shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hoddle eats them both and turns towards Weight to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Hoddle dives in for a single leg takedown but Weight sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Weight manages to break the clinch.
Weight fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Hoddle throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hoddle loads up on a big right hand but Weight slips the punch.
A little jabbing left from Weight on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Weight parries the strikes from Hoddle easily there. Hoddle is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Weight to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Weight's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hoddle tries to score with some ground and pound. Weight controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Hoddle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hoddle creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Weight sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Hoddle shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hoddle was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Weight takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Weight is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hoddle is controlling him well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hoddle connects with a nice short shot to Weight's temple.
Hoddle winds up and cracks Weight with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Weight wants to get back to full guard but Hoddle has passed into side control.
Weight is still in real trouble! Can Hoddle finish him?

Weight seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hoddle has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Weight can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hoddle seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Weight got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hoddle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Weight has managed to get both his arms back between Hoddle's legs - danger averted.
