PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Darken Rahl (ranked 1065 p4p, 1570 weight class) and Dingleberry Jones (ranked 101 p4p, 146 weight class). Jones is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Hell Yeah. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 14 - 1, fighting out of New York, Darken Rahl!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dingleberry Jones!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rahl looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.
Dingleberry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rahl scores with a jab to the body.

Rahl moves into range and clinches up with Jones.
Jones doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Jones utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Rahl definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Rahl makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Rahl is trying to break the clinch but Jones has him pressed against the cage.
Rahl lands a body shot in the clinch.
Jones lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Jones is trying to maintain a safe position but Rahl gets an underhook and turns Jones into the cage.

Rahl has hold of one of Jones's legs. Jones is fighting the takedown attempt but Rahl gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Rahl slips a nice elbow through Jones's hands, connecting with Jones's forehead.
Rahl looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jones with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rahl works his foot free and advances to mount.
Rahl with shots to the head and body - Jones looks very uncomfortable down there.
Jones tries to lock up and control but Rahl gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rahl has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones tries to reverse the position but Rahl maintains control.
Rahl lands a big shot there that rocks Jones but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Rahl pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Rahl prevents Jones from getting the reversal.
Jones keeps trying to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rahl lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Rahl can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.
Jones is desperately trying to improve his position but Rahl has a good base and remains in mount.
Jones tries to lock up and control but Rahl gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Rahl is stalling here but it's allowed Jones to get half guard.

Rahl is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Rahl eventually gives up the hold.

Rahl moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Jones.
Jones wants to control but Rahl postures up.

Jones tries to buck Rahl off but Rahl is having none of it.

Rahl lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's time! Rahl's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rahl connects with a nice short shot to Jones's temple.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rahl postures up and lands a big shot to Jones's brow.
Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Jones throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rahl escapes and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Jones is trying to control Rahl's posture but Rahl avoids it.

Rahl thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Jones takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Jones tries to buck Rahl off but Rahl is having none of it.

Rahl is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Rahl fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jones manages to avoid it.
Jones lands a nice leg kick that just misses Rahl's sensitive parts.

Jones closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rahl's guard.
Rahl utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jones makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Rahl is looking for a triangle but Jones pushes his legs off easily.
Jones postures up in Rahl's guard and throws a big left but Rahl blocks it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rahl wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rahl is on top in guard.
