PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chad Bartz (ranked 278 p4p, 321 weight class) and Armand Christophe (ranked 43 p4p, 52 weight class). Christophe has chosen Shadows as his entrance music. Chad Bartz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Bartz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 2, fighting out of New York, Armand Christophe!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Hemmingworth and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bartz throws a leg kick that is checked

and Christophe counters with a single leg into guard. Bartz didn't expect that.
Christophe trying to control the position from guard on top but Bartz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bartz has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Christophe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bartz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Christophe has Bartz in his guard.


Christophe has his foot on Bartz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bartz works his way back into a safe position though.

Bartz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Christophe has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bartz has managed to get both his arms back between Christophe's legs - danger averted.
Bartz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Christophe trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Bartz manages to pass to mount!
Christophe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Christophe tries to control the position but Bartz now has his back.
Christophe tries to escape but Bartz has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Bartz trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Christophe doesn't escape.

Christophe wants to escape the position.
I would not like to be Christophe right now.
Christophe trying to control the hands but Bartz won't let him.
Bartz has the hooks in. Christophe is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Bartz is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Bartz continues to stall.
Christophe wants to escape the position.

Christophe is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Bartz.
Christophe tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Christophe wants to control but Bartz is having none of it.

I really don't envy Christophe right now.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Christophe breaks Bartz's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Christophe pushes down on Bartz's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Christophe has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bartz tries to lock up and control but Christophe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Christophe can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bartz is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Christophe throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bartz because Christophe loaded up on that one.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chad Bartz will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Christophe keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Christophe tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Christophe scores with a head kick. Bartz tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Christophe misses with a low kick as Bartz jumps back.
Bartz appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Bartz scores with a decent looking hook.
Bartz buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Bartz closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Bartz scores with a body shot.

Bartz fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Christophe is out of range.
Christophe moves out of range of the leg kick from Bartz.

Bartz keeping moving, preventing Christophe from controlling successfully.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Bartz holds on and takes a little breather.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Christophe throws a big right hand that misses.
Bartz wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Christophe takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Bartz throws a poor cross that misses
and Christophe cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bartz misses the jab.
Christophe looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Christophe tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Bartz throws a low kick but Christophe moves out of range easily.

Bartz takes a swing at Christophe's ribcage but misses.
The crowd cheers as Christophe lands an impressive looking overhand right. Bartz doesn't seem phased though.
Bartz lands a glancing blow to the side of Christophe's head.
Bartz wants to land a leg kick but Christophe is out of range.
Chad Bartz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Christophe moves away from the strike by Bartz.
Bartz cracks Christophe with a good jab.
Christophe misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bartz misses with a body punch
and Christophe counters with a left to the body.
Bartz's jab looks to have found its range, popping Christophe under the eye.
Bartz just misses with a punch to the body.

Christophe moves out of range of the strikes.
Christophe throws out a counter right but Bartz avoids it with no problem.
Bartz tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Christophe is able to avoid easily.
Christophe feints the counter takedown.
An inside leg kick lands from Christophe.
Christophe wants to slow Bartz down by chopping away at his legs.
A little feinted left hand from Bartz on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Bartz fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Christophe manages to avoid it.
Bartz jabs at Christophe's body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bartz misses with an uppercut.
Bartz lands a jab to Christophe's midsection.
Christophe ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Christophe looks like he wants to counter punch here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Chad Bartz dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Christophe throws a front kick aimed at Bartz's knee but Bartz avoids it well.
Bartz takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Bartz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Christophe.
Bartz misses with a hook. Christophe ducked under it nicely.
Christophe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Bartz.
Bartz throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Christophe crashing down! Christophe tries to stagger back to his feet but Bartz just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Christophe asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chad Bartz!
A relieved looking Chad Bartz thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
