PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lewis Pendragon (ranked 152 p4p, 349 weight class) and Matija Maestro (ranked 16 p4p, 34 weight class). Maestro has chosen Shortwire - Reconfig as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matija Maestro!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Maestro finds it's way through Pendragon's defenses.
Pendragon wants to clinch up but Maestro keeps it at a distance.
Pendragon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Pendragon walks into a stiff left hand from Maestro.
Maestro connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Pendragon's hands.

Pendragon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Maestro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

It looked like Pendragon was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Maestro.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maestro throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Pendragon sees it coming and avoids it easily.
It looked like Pendragon wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Maestro shoots in for a takedown but Pendragon shows good takedown defense.

Maestro closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pendragon quickly recovers to half guard.

Maestro is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pendragon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maestro.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Let's hope that Maestro has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Pendragon lets loose with a powerful body kick. Maestro will feel that in the morning.

Maestro bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Pendragon takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Maestro ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pendragon moves away.

Maestro scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pendragon doesn't seem bothered though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close round but Lewis Pendragon did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

Maestro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pendragon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Maestro somewhat.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
I really don't envy Pendragon right now.

Maestro is persistently looking for the submission but Pendragon is defending it well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
