PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Harris Mint (ranked 545 p4p, 624 weight class) and Pavel Kostov (ranked 79 p4p, 88 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harris Mint!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pavel Kostov!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mint looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kostov is fending him off so far but Mint persists. Nope, Kostov circles away and we're back to standing.
Kostov fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mint has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Mint shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kostov keeping hold of Mint's head, controlling as best he can.
Mint performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mint prevents Kostov from improving his position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mint changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kostov tries to avoid it but Mint manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kostov to the ground. Kostov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mint looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kostov!
Mint wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kostov keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kostov is looking to regain half guard here but Mint keeps moving and retains side control.
Kostov is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Mint controls the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Kostov is looking for a sweep.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kostov dips to his left and cracks Mint with an uppercut!
Mint bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Mint drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kostov sprawls and moves away.
Pavel Kostov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kostov throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Mint feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mint takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Kostov lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kostov lands a jab to Mint's midsection.

Mint fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kostov sprawls well initially but Mint persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kostov makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mint circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mint shoots for a takedown but Kostov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Mint shoots in looking for a takedown. Kostov tries to sprawl out of it but Mint keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kostov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Harris Mint has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mint misses with a takedown attempt - Kostov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kostov has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Pavel Kostov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mint's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Mint pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mint takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Kostov sizes up Mint with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Mint fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kostov moves into range and connects with a jab.
Kostov with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Kostov uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Kostov keeps Mint at a distance using the push kick.

Pavel Kostov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kostov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
