The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Popkov.
It looks like Trond Asmundsen has been cut.
Asmundsen scores with a jab to the jaw.
Asmundsen misses with a looping right.
Asmundsen's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Popkov connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Asmundsen scrambles back to his feet.
Trond Asmundsen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A nice inside leg kick there by Asmundsen. That's going to slow Popkov down.
Asmundsen throws an overhand right that lands on Popkov's shoulder, as Popkov tries to avoid the shot.
Asmundsen turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Popkov has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Nice takedown defense from Popkov. No joy for Asmundsen on that attempt.
Asmundsen moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromPopkov.
Asmundsen on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Popkov. Popkov obviously looking to wear him down.
Popkov sends Asmundsen crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Popkov is motioning to the referee to let Asmundsen up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Asmundsen is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Asmundsen drops his hands momentarily. Popkov doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Asmundsen staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Asmundsen doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mikhail Popkov!
