PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ty Little (ranked 2684 p4p, 3698 weight class) and Nasir Malikai (ranked 345 p4p, 434 weight class). Malikai has chosen Huka Blues as his entrance music. Nasir Malikai told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ty Little! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nasir Malikai! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Little has a takedown stuffed. Little takes one to the chin there. Malikai lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Little misses with an uppercut. Malikai saw that one coming. Little lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Malikai throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Little stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Some wild striking there from Little.
Malikai misses with a series of wild punches.
Little was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Little catches Malikai with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Little tries a head kick but it misses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Little uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Malikai.

Malikai ducks under a wild hook from Little. Malikai scores with a leg kick.
Little fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Malikai misses with a straight left.
That's one minute gone in the round. Malikai swings and misses with a hook to the body.
As Malikai backs away, Little returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Little throws a lazy right hand but Malikai sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Little tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Malikai defends well and Little ends up having to push Malikai into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ty Little. That's going to take a lot out of him. Malikai breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nasir Malikai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Malikai stuffs the takedown. Malikai steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Little. Malikai works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Little slips under a jab. A punch combination from Little misses. Malikai's coach down at Combat Wombat Burrow was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Malikai's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Little jabbing away but nothing is landing. Malikai is looking for the big counter here. Little throws a right and a left that both miss. Malikai misses with a straight right. Malikai goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Ty Little has been cut. Little is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Malikai's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems. Little swings widly with a right hand
letting Malikai counter with a right hand. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Little misses with a looping right. Little walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Little is rocked! A nice leg kick from Malikai, right into the meat of the thigh.
Malikai has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Little lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
A left lands for Malikai. Oh Little is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Malikai scores with a decent looking hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Little misses with a lunging right hand
and Malikai counters with a nice right hand that sends Little toppling to the canvas! Little scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Malikai finish him?!
Ty Little's cut is getting worse. Malikai misses with a series of wild punches.
Little throws a lazy right hand but Malikai sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Crunch! Little slams his shin into Malikai's torso. Little seems to have got his legs back now. Little throws a hook but Malikai blocks it. Little on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Little looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Little throws a jab when Malikai was well out of range. Malikai is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Malikai displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Little throws out the jab. Little connects with a single shot there. Malikai slips a straight right by Little. Malikai throws a right and a left that both miss. Malikai slips under a jab. Little throws a hook to the side of Malikai's head but Malikai sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Decent striking displayed by Little there. Little defending well as Malikai loads up on a big left hand. A slapping leg kick lands for Malikai.
Little is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Little thows a left - swing and a miss! Little lands with a right hand. Little takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Malikai throws a combination. Little tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Malikai moves out of range of the strikes. Little shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Little controlling the pace. Little escapes and gets back to his feet. Malikai works Little's body with a nice hook. Ty Little seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Little blocks a jab. A little feinted left hand from Little on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. A decent looking cross lands there for Malikai. Malikai lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. A right-left combo lands from Malikai.
Ty Little's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Little slips under a jab. Little drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Malikai throws a right hand that Little ducks under and follows up with a left that Little also avoids with ease. Malikai ducks under a wild hook from Little. Malikai cracks Little with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Little misses with a wild combination.
Little lands the left hand. Little fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Malikai has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Little shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Malikai as he jumps to the side. Little throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Little misses with a head kick.
Little throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Malikai slips a jab from Little. Little closes this distance looking for a takedown but Malikai circles away. Malikai keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Little. Malikai scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Malikai moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Nasir Malikai dominated that round. The cut man is working on Ty Little's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Malikai feints and then cracks Little's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Little down. Malikai walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Little uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Malikai. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Malikai!
Malikai moves forwards but Little connects with a nice, crisp jab. Little throws a head kick that misses. Malikai throws a counter combo. Little will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Little is looking for a counter combo. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Malikai leaves Little with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Little misses with a hook
and Malikai counters with a crisp one two that drops Little! Malikai thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Little to his feet! Little is in big trouble! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Little misses with a straight left. Malikai drops Little with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Little! Malikai dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nasir Malikai! Nasir Malikai decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
