PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Principo Adam (ranked 106 p4p, 173 weight class) and Jake Bird (ranked 13 p4p, 21 weight class). Adam comes to the cage accompanied by Dona Eis Requiem. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Principo Adam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Bird!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird misses with a hook. Adam ducked under it nicely.
Bird misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Adam.

Bird drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Bird drops back, looking for a kneebar! Adam looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Adam looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Adam!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bird has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Adam is looking to take a break and control but Bird is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Bird is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Adam pulls his head out easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bird moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Principo Adam will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bird is looking to stall here but Adam recovers full guard.
Bird looking to sit in guard and control but Adam gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Adam seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bird does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee warns Bird that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Bird reaches up to try and control the position but Adam seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Bird rolls and tries to escape and now Adam has his back!
Adam seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Bird doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Bird avoids the body shot from Adam.
Bird digs a good body shot into Adam's ribs.
Bird has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bird there as he acknowledges the shot.
Adam takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Adam swings for the body but Bird moves out of range.

Adam takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Bird fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Adam sprawls well initially but Bird persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Adam is trying to control but can't.

Bird is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Adam is just riding it out for now. Bird eventually gives up the hold.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Principo Adam.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Adam, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
