Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Kersikov (ranked 7 p4p, 35 weight class) and Mauro Okongwu (ranked 3 p4p, 1 weight class). Kersikov's entrance music is Head of the Table. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Okongwu's choice of entrance music: Show Stop - REASON. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrei Kersikov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 21 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mauro Okongwu! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Donk. Kersikov catches Okongwu right on the button with a cross.
It looks like Mauro Okongwu has been cut. Okongwu connects with a body shot. Okongwu throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kersikov stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Okongwu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kersikov was well out of range. Poor timing from Okongwu. Kersikov throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kersikov takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Mauro Okongwu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Okongwu connects with the punch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Okongwu throws the kick towards the body but Kersikov avoids it. A right-left combo lands from Okongwu. Kersikov staying out of range there. It looked like Kersikov wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
That's one minute gone in the round. Okongwu avoids a low kick by using good footwork. A head kick misses from Okongwu. Okongwu scores with a body shot.
The fight stays on the outside here - Okongwu looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A little feinted left hand from Kersikov on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Kersikov throws a leg kick and Okongwu counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Okongwu takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Kersikov has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Kersikov misses the body punch and Okongwu counters with a nice uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kersikov swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. The fighters circling - Okongwu throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Okongwu scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Okongwu cracks a nice hook into Kersikov's ribs. Kersikov moves out of range as Okongwu throws a body kick.
Kersikov lands a slapping body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A nice leg kick from Kersikov, right into the meat of the thigh.
Okongwu tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Okongwu swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Okongwu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kersikov ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kersikov throws the left hand but Okongwu avoids the punch easily. As Kersikov backs off Okongwu throws a huge counter combo but Kersikov manages to avoid it all. Okongwu fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Okongwu tries to clinch up and Kersikov counters with a left to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kersikov walks into a stiff left hand from Okongwu. Kersikov swings for the body but Okongwu moves out of range.
Okongwu misses with an attempted mid kick.
Okongwu moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Okongwu slips under a jab from Kersikov. Okongwu swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Kersikov fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Kersikov on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Mauro Okongwu dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mauro Okongwu's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Okongwu attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Okongwu lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kersikov at a distance.
Kersikov swings away with a body shot that misses
and Okongwu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Okongwu connects with a leg kick. Okongwu lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kersikov will feel that in the morning. Kersikov misses with a body kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Okongwu scores with a shot to the body.
Kersikov is looking to wear down Okongwu with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Okongwu crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kersikov - the referee stops the clock and Okongwu gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kersikov. Okongwu manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kersikov misses with a body kick. Sloppy strikes from Kersikov. Those never looked like landing. Okongwu lands a nice looking body shot.
Okongwu moves into the clinch. Okongwu swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kersikov lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Kersikov tries a knee to the head but Okongwu blocks it.
Okongwu struggles to land a body shot inside as Kersikov controls his hands.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Kersikov. Kersikov goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Kersikov manages to break the clinch.
Okongwu misses with a leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Okongwu throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Okongwu throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Kersikov uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Okongwu. Kersikov scores with a shot to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Okongwu swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kersikov thinks about countering with a body kick. Okongwu misses with a left hand and Kersikov counters with a straight right hand. Okongwu throws a lazy uppercut
and Kersikov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Kersikov scores with a leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kersikov's jab looks to have found its range, popping Okongwu under the eye.
That has opened up Mauro Okongwu's cut even more. Okongwu lands with a kick to the ribs.
Mauro Okongwu seems to be getting the better of the standup. Kersikov checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. A slow jab from Okongwu misses its intended target. Kersikov drops Okongwu with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Okongwu looks back up at him and smiles so Kersikov waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Okongwu is rocked! Kersikov misses with a hook. Okongwu ducked under it nicely. Okongwu tries to clinch but Kersikov moves away and Kersikov counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Andrei Kersikov! A very excited looking Andrei Kersikov made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
