PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Camaras Account (ranked 267 p4p, 140 weight class) and Royal Halsti (ranked 39 p4p, 22 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halsti lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Account fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Halsti.
Halsti throws a hook but Account avoids it easily.

I was talking to Account's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Halsti swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Halsti jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Account walks away with a smile on his face. Halsti gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Halsti changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Account swats away the attempt to clinch by Halsti.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Account.
Camaras Account is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Account wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Halsti has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Halsti is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Account had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.

Halsti goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Account has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Halsti but great work by Account.

Account slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Account has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Account wants to control from the top but Halsti keeps moving.

Halsti manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Account manages to get himself to full guard.

Account utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Account is pulling down on Halsti's head. It's preventing any offense from Halsti, at least for the moment.
Account's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

It looked like Account wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Halsti tries to work over Account's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Halsti pulls guard.
Account not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Halsti is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Account avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Halsti is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Account is aware though and is defending well.

Halsti bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Account's guard.

Halsti postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Account is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Halsti, into his guard.

Account is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Halsti is looking to control Account's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Halsti avoid being mounted?

Halsti has his foot on Account's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Account works his way back into a safe position though.

I think Halsti has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
