PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jake Reaper (ranked 1313 p4p, 2112 weight class) and Shu Fang Tzeng (ranked 93 p4p, 136 weight class). Tzeng comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mantra Chant kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Shu Fang Tzeng acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Reaper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shu Fang Tzeng!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reaper circles away from the clinch attempt
and Reaper counters with a straight right hand.
Tzeng tries for a takedown but Reaper circles away easily
and Reaper counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nice cross by Reaper.
Reaper throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tzeng throws out a counter right but Reaper avoids it with no problem.
Reaper is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Tzeng tries for a takedown but Reaper sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tzeng will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jake Reaper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shu Fang Tzeng.
Tzeng goes for a double leg but Reaper avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Reaper continues to drive forward.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tzeng darts in looking for a takedown but Reaper gets double underhooks and turns Tzeng into the cage.
Nice shot by Reaper.
Reaper jabs Tzeng right on the nose. Tzeng blinks but takes it well.
Reaper connects with a high kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tzeng shoots and misses
and Reaper counters with a nice body kick.

Tzeng takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Jake Reaper is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Tzeng throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reaper tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tzeng is in Reaper's guard.
Reaper pulls Tzeng in close to prevent any damage.

Tzeng thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Reaper looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Tzeng sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Reaper's guard.
Reaper is looking to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tzeng is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reaper defends it well.

Tzeng is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Reaper has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Tzeng is working for a kimura here but Reaper manages to reverse the position and he's now in Tzeng's guard.

Tzeng working for a triangle but Reaper defends it easily.
Reaper controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Reaper knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tzeng on the ground.

Tzeng has his foot on Reaper's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reaper works his way back into a safe position though.
Reaper controls from within his opponent's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Reaper is pushing down on Tzeng's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tzeng is fighting to maintain full guard but Reaper has managed to sneak the leg through.
Reaper will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reaper trying to control the pace.

Tzeng actively working from the bottom here.
Reaper content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Tzeng moves into full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reaper stopping the sweep attempt from Tzeng.

Tzeng is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Reaper is aware though and is defending well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Reaper dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Reaper thuds his right hand into Tzeng's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Reaper lands with a shot to the body.
Reaper bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Tzeng fails to land the takedown.
Reaper slaps away a takedown attempt from Tzeng, before circling back to the center of the mat.
It looked like Reaper wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Reaper is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Reaper gets caught flat footed, as Tzeng shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Tzeng is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Reaper is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Reaper has escaped and now he's on top!


Tzeng looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tzeng looking for a guillotine here but Reaper defends easily.

Reaper has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Tzeng to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Reaper is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Tzeng pulls down on the head and he's put Reaper to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Shu Fang Tzeng!
A pretty intense looking Shu Fang Tzeng took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
