PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Wesley Hardin (ranked 1189 p4p, 586 weight class) and Colton Wilder (ranked 144 p4p, 82 weight class). Wilder has chosen Tombstone - Avatar Darko as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Wesley Hardin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Colton Wilder!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hardin throws a lazy uppercut

and Wilder counters with a takedown into side control.
Wilder working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Wilder taking a breather here.
Wilder scores with punches from side control.
Wilder wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hardin keeps working.
Wilder creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hardin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilder looks up at the clock and then as Hardin takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wilder smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Wilder wants to control but Hardin is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hardin managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Wilder.

Hardin being controlled for a moment.
Wilder throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Wilder is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hardin will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Hardin can't do much from the bottom here.

Wilder is staying tight to Hardin's torso, preventing him from escaping.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wilder wants to control but Hardin is keeping him busy.
Wilder has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hardin is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Wilder asserts his dominance and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilder wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hardin keeps working.
Wilder throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Hardin works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Hardin misses with a wild body shot.
Hardin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wilder.
Hardin throws a jab when Wilder was well out of range.

Wilder has Hardin up against the cage in a clinch.
Wilder blocks an uppercut.
A head punch on the inside from Hardin fails to land.

Wilder manages to pull guard.
Hardin won't allow Wilder to sweep him here.
Wilder is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilder bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hardin's guard.

Hardin wants to stand up but Wilder is controlling him.
Wilder working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Wilder postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wilder throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hardin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Wilder slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hardin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Wilder on the ground.

Wilder wants to pass to mount but Hardin is defending the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wilder wants to advance to full mount but Hardin doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Wilder wants to control from the top but Hardin keeps moving.
Colton Wilder has got the better of the ground game so far.
Wilder throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hardin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hardin wants to stand and escape but Wilder is having none of it.
Wilder throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A swing and a miss from Hardin.
Wilder tries to close the distance and clinch but Hardin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wilder drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

A telegraphed right hand from Hardin misses the target.
Wilder is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
We've been told by Hardin's head coaches at Outlaw MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hardin misses with a body shot.

Wilder darts in and clinches Hardin up against the cage.
Wilder has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Wilder jumps guard but Hardin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Wilder goes for a takedown attempt but Hardin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
John Wesley Hardin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Colton Wilder.

Hardin tries to work over Wilder's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
A frustrated look appears on Hardin's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Wilder is looking for a takedown.

Hardin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hardin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hardin lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

It looks like Colton Wilder has been cut.

A big right from Hardin misses.
Nice defenses there by Wilder.
Wilder has his takedown stuffed
and Hardin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wilder steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hardin.
John Wesley Hardin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wilder tries to clinch up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hardin waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Wilder.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wilder looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Hardin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wilder.
Wilder tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hardin is not content to let Wilder control the position.
Wilder landing strikes.
Wilder creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hardin sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Hardin parries the strikes from Wilder easily there. Wilder is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hardin to escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Colton Wilder comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Wilder has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
