Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Guy River (ranked 676 p4p, 427 weight class) and Apophis Kalmisto (ranked 101 p4p, 66 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think River might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Gabon National Anthem. Apophis Kalmisto acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Guy River! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Apophis Kalmisto! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! River throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kalmisto cracks River with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. No luck with that takedown attempt from Kalmisto. Kalmisto tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but River was well out of range. Poor timing from Kalmisto. Kalmisto takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Kalmisto blocks the body kick.
Kalmisto swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. River thumps Kalmisto with a low kick. River throws out a leg kick but Kalmisto moves out of range and River only half commits. Kalmisto is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Kalmisto throws a lazy body kick and River counters with a nice leg kick. Kalmisto checks the leg kick. River has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Rivers Edge Gym in the buildup to the fight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kalmisto scores with a shot to the body.
River throws a body shot but no joy. River misses with a straight right. River throws a head kick that misses and Kalmisto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kalmisto drops River with a left right combo! Kalmisto follows him down to the ground into side control.
River is rocked! River prevents Kalmisto from improving position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalmisto is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Kalmisto advances to full mount. Kalmisto goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now River is on top in guard.
Kalmisto wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kalmisto working for a triangle but River defends it easily.
River is looking to stand up but Kalmisto won't let him. Our spies down at at Hey Steves Fight Shack inform us that Kalmisto has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Kalmisto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kalmisto looking for a guillotine here but River defends easily.
Kalmisto has his feet on River's thighs here. He's pushed River off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! River screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
