Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lars Kay (ranked 309 p4p, 581 weight class) and Anthony Merel (ranked 26 p4p, 53 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lars Kay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Merel!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Merel misses its intended target.
Merel displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kay throws out the jab.
Merel changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A big left from Kay misses.
Kay looks to land a right hand but Merel moved out of range.
Merel drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Kay defends it well.
Merel uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kay.

Kay throws a jab when Merel was well out of range.
Merel throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kay stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Merel bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

We've been informed that Merel has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Merel has control of Kay's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kay regains control of the situation pretty easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Kay lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Merel smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Merel fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kay manages to avoid it.

Kay flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Merel looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Merel is looking for a kimura but Kay is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Merel to get the leverage.

Merel has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Kay is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Merel yanks on the arm and Kay is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Merel.
