Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 18 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Batu Otgonbayar! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mark Hughes! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Hughes tries to move into full mount but can't pass Otgonbayar's legs. Otgonbayar on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Otgonbayar tries to get out of the position. Hughes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hughes tries to advance to mount but can't. Hughes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hughes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Otgonbayar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Hughes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hughes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Otgonbayar stops Hughes from passing to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes is trying to get an arm triangle but Otgonbayar is defending well. Hughes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Otgonbayar, who protects the arm well. Otgonbayar prevents Hughes from improving position. Otgonbayar looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Hughes moves into full mount! Hughes moves to the back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hughes working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Otgonbayar is doing well to defend. Hughes seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Otgonbayar is forced to tap and this one is over!
