PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amri Mbeki (ranked 921 p4p, 568 weight class) and Orestes Prometheus (ranked 115 p4p, 76 weight class). Mbeki comes to the cage accompanied by Where The Hood At. Orestes Prometheus will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Amri Mbeki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Orestes Prometheus!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prometheus throws a series of strikes that have Mbeki backpedaling.

It looks like Amri Mbeki has been cut.
Mbeki takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Prometheus tries a head kick but it misses.
Mbeki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Prometheus looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Mbeki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Mbeki wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Prometheus, who protects the arm well.
Prometheus prevents Mbeki from improving position.
Prometheus can't do much from the bottom here.

Mbeki is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Prometheus knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mbeki wants to control but Prometheus is keeping him busy.

Mbeki goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Prometheus rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mbeki's guard! Nice work there by Prometheus!
Mbeki throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Prometheus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mbeki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mbeki is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Prometheus passes the guard and advances to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mbeki wants to hold on but Prometheus pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Prometheus tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mbeki is trying to escape the mount.
Mbeki tries to control Prometheus's body but Prometheus pushes him off. Mbeki squirms to his side and now Prometheus has his back!

Prometheus is not going to allow Mbeki to sit and survive in this position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Mbeki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Prometheus swivels and escapes.

Mbeki has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mbeki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mbeki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mbeki wants to take a breather but Prometheus manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Mbeki.

Prometheus wants to sweep here but Mbeki controlling him for the moment.
Mbeki wants to pass the guard but Prometheus is keeping the position.
Mbeki working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Prometheus manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mbeki manages to get himself to full guard.

Prometheus slips nicely into half guard.
Prometheus has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mbeki tries to get to full guard but Prometheus has control of the leg.

Mbeki is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Prometheus pulls his head out easily.

Mbeki looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Prometheus moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Mbeki.
Mbeki tries to bench press Prometheus off him but Prometheus keeps the position.
Mbeki might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mbeki is trying to control Prometheus's posture but Prometheus avoids it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mbeki looking for a sweep but Prometheus has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Prometheus controlling the pace for now.
Orestes Prometheus has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mbeki flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Mbeki is wriggling around trying to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mbeki prevents Prometheus from taking his back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Amri Mbeki will probably get the nod.

Mbeki shoots in but Prometheus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mbeki backing away here, and Prometheus unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Prometheus misses with an uppercut.
Mbeki slips under a jab.
Mbeki appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Prometheus dodges the punch combination from Mbeki.
Mbeki shoots in and drives through. Prometheus sprawls well.
Prometheus counters with a body kick.
Mbeki lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

It looks like Orestes Prometheus has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mbeki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Prometheus throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Prometheus throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Mbeki's head.

Prometheus pushes Mbeki away with a front kick.
Amri Mbeki is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A jab lands there for Prometheus.
Prometheus bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mbeki's head.
Mbeki tries for a takedown but Prometheus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Prometheus swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Orestes Prometheus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mbeki throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Prometheus is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Prometheus misses with a body shot.
No luck for Mbeki with that takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Prometheus's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Prometheus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Prometheus wants it to stay on the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Prometheus scores with a shot to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Mbeki.
Mbeki moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Orestes Prometheus seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Mbeki takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Prometheus drops Mbeki with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Mbeki! Prometheus dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:16 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Orestes Prometheus!
After winning the bout, Orestes Prometheus thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
