PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tacitus Kilgore (ranked 12 p4p, 56 weight class) and Olyn Seran (ranked 3 p4p, 11 weight class). Seran has chosen Sound of Silence - Disturbed as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 40 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tacitus Kilgore!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, Olyn Seran!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kilgore throws a hook to the side of Seran's head but Seran sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Seran flicks out a counter leg kick but Kilgore steps away.
Kilgore gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Seran counters with a nice leg kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kilgore. Seran does a little dance to reset his feet.
Seran is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kilgore sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kilgore cracks a nice hook into Seran's ribs.
Kilgore misses with a hook
and Seran counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kilgore punishes Seran's body with a nice straight punch.
A big left from Kilgore misses.
And Seran tries to counter it with a takedown but Kilgore pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Seran shoots in but Kilgore avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kilgore thinks about countering with a body kick.

Seran fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kilgore is out of range.

Seran tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Seran throws a head kick that misses
and Kilgore connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

It looks like Olyn Seran has been cut.
Kilgore tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Seran thinks about the counter body kick.
Seran misses with a takedown attempt - Kilgore sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A little feinted left hand from Kilgore on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Tacitus Kilgore has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Olyn Seran.

Seran throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kilgore looks to throw the jab but Seran is out of range.
Seran looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Seran moves forwards but Kilgore connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Kilgore looks to score with a jab to the body but Seran is just out of range.
Seran tries to bum rush Kilgore with a series of wild strikes but Kilgore uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A little feinted left hand from Kilgore on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Kilgore takes a swing at Seran's ribcage but misses.
And Seran tries to counter it with a takedown but Kilgore pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Tacitus Kilgore seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kilgore has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kilgore there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kilgore takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A telegraphed right hand from Kilgore misses the target.
Seran looks like he wants to counter punch here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kilgore lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Kilgore comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Seran swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kilgore throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kilgore keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Seran counters with a nice uppercut.

It looks like Tacitus Kilgore has been cut.
Kilgore looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Seran misses with a takedown
and Kilgore counters with a flying knee. Nice.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Seran has his takedown stuffed
and Kilgore counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kilgore misses with a head kick.
Seran staying out of range there.
Kilgore throws a head kick but Seran moves out of range.
Seran avoids a kick to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Seran changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kilgore tries to avoid it but Seran manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kilgore to the ground. Kilgore escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kilgore waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Seran.
Seran flicks out a counter leg kick but Kilgore steps away.
Kilgore tests Seran's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Seran walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Seran takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Nice uppercut lands for Seran. That snapped Kilgore's head back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kilgore misses with a leg kick
and Kilgore takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Seran takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Kilgore throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Seran counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Seran fails to land the takedown.
Kilgore connects with a looping right hand.
Seran has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Kilgore throws a looping overhand right but Seran ducks down to avoid it.
Seran tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Seran might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Kilgore has got the better of the exchanges.
Seran keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kilgore uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Seran.
Kilgore is looking to counter punch.
A slow jab from Kilgore misses its intended target.
Tacitus Kilgore is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kilgore connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Seran moves away from the strike by Kilgore.
Kilgore throws a sloppy head kick and Seran moves out of range easily.

Seran looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kilgore makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kilgore.
Seran stands and throws Kilgore's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Seran is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kilgore has escaped the position, nice work there.

Seran goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kilgore rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Seran's guard! Nice work there by Kilgore!
Kilgore is stalling in the full guard.
Seran tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Seran has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kilgore is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Seran.
Seran is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kilgore taking a breather here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kilgore is putting a hurting on Seran here, landing some big shots from side control.

Seran looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kilgore is fending him off so far but Seran persists. Nope, Kilgore circles away and we're back to standing.

Seran is looking to pass Kilgore's guard but actually Kilgore recovers to full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kilgore looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Seran advances position into side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Seran goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kilgore has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Seran but great work by Kilgore.
Seran tries to buck Kilgore off but Kilgore is having none of it.
Seran being controlled for a moment.
Seran tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Seran is not content to let Kilgore control the position.
Kilgore knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Seran on the ground.

Kilgore takes a little break here. Seran wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Seran tries to bench press Kilgore off him but Kilgore keeps the position.
Kilgore controls the position from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Seran tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kilgore wants to control but Seran is keeping him busy.
Seran gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Kilgore is keen to just control but Seran is a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Seran looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Seran wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Kilgore moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Seran.
Seran tries to improve position but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kilgore wants to lay and pray for a moment but Seran keeps working.
Kilgore is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Seran is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close third round but Olyn Seran just about did enough to take it.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Seran looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Seran takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Seran throws a chopping leg kick but Kilgore manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Kilgore tries to sprawl but Seran drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Seran is looking for a kimura here.

Seran is working for a kimura here but Kilgore manages to reverse the position and he's now in Seran's guard.

Kilgore controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Seran looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kilgore has picked Seran up and slammed him! Seran can't keep hold of the triangle and Kilgore manages to pass to side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kilgore creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Seran is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kilgore's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Seran is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Kilgore is tapping! Great win for Seran!

A very excited looking Olyn Seran made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
