PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Siaosi Kuresa (ranked 4005 p4p, 5663 weight class) and Max Gunn (ranked 437 p4p, 501 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Siaosi Kuresa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Gunn!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kuresa uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gunn.
Gunn lands a body shot.
Kuresa stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Gunn.
Kuresa keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gunn.
Kuresa tests Gunn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kuresa throws a nice looking combination but Gunn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gunn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kuresa was well out of range. Poor timing from Gunn.
Kuresa lands with a nice body punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kuresa tried to score with a low kick but Gunn checks it.
A jab from Kuresa finds it's way through Gunn's defenses.

Gunn closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Kuresa scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Max Gunn has been cut.
Gunn takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kuresa uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gunn.
Kuresa throws a big shot that misses.
Gunn walks into a stiff left hand from Kuresa.
Gunn swings widly with a right hand
and Kuresa connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kuresa will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kuresa backing away here, and Gunn unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Kuresa feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gunns jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Kuresa looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kuresa takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Kuresa throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Gunn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Kuresa throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gunn.
Gunn slips a jab from Kuresa.
Gunn throws out a counter right but Kuresa avoids it with no problem.
Kuresa on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Kuresa misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gunn.

Gunn unleashes a big counter combination but Kuresa bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Gunn takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Max Gunn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gunn just misses with a punch to the body.
Gunn uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kuresa.
Gunn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kuresa misses with a wild combination.

Gunn looks to land a combination. Kuresa sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Kuresa is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Kuresa's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Kuresa duly obliges.

Gunn looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Kuresa lands a left and a right that send Gunn crashing to the mat, dazed. Kuresa thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Gunn is rocked!
Gunn leaves his chin hanging out and Kuresa seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Gunn crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Siaosi Kuresa!
