Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyler Westlake (ranked 5126 p4p, 24670 weight class) and Michael McConnell (ranked 464 p4p, 499 weight class). Westlake comes to the cage accompanied by Tek It (Sped Up). Tyler Westlake had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyler Westlake! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael McConnell ! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Westlake defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McConnell . Westlake is looking for a counter combo. McConnell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Westlake's waist but Westlake gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McConnell off to one side. Westlake lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McConnell circles away quickly and effectively. McConnell slips a jab and a cross from Westlake.
Westlake will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Westlake scores with a one two! McConnell had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Westlake fails to land with a series of punches.
McConnell tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. McConnell rushes Westlake and presses him up against the cage. McConnell lands a takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McConnell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Westlake wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

We've been told by Westlake's head coaches at Cozad MMA Montreal that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Westlake throws a right hand that McConnell ducks under and follows up with a left that McConnell also avoids with ease. McConnell has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Westlake throws a series of punches but McConnell moves out of range. McConnell is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Westlake lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McConnell circles away quickly and effectively. And McConnell tries to counter it with a takedown but Westlake pushes his down on his head and steps out. Westlake throws a right and a left that McConnell avoids nicely. McConnell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Westlake to the ground. McConnell is now in Westlake's guard. McConnell engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. McConnell throws a big elbow that misses.

McConnell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. McConnell closes this distance looking for a takedown but Westlake circles away. A combination from Westlake does no damage. McConnell lands with a kick to the temple. Westlake shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Westlake misses with a double jab.
This has been an exciting period of action! Westlake throws a right hand that McConnell ducks under and follows up with a left that McConnell also avoids with ease. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

McConnell tries to counter by closing the distance. Westlake looks to land a combination but McConnell avoids it well. McConnell looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Westlake! Westlake bucks up and tries to throw McConnell off but instead McConnell has got his back! McConnell struggling to land strikes to the head as Westlake covers up. McConnell misses with a punch to the head. Westlake trying to control the position but McConnell manages to sink in the hooks. Westlake is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McConnell can do to turn this around? McConnell keeps control of the position as Westlake tries to break free.

Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Westlake wants to hit a sweep here but McConnell passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Westlake there! Westlake somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Westlake throws a nice looking combination but McConnell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. A close second round but Michael McConnell will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's time! Westlake's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round! Westlake scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Westlake swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from McConnell is defended easily by Westlake. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McConnell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Westlake pinned against the cage. Westlake gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Westlake throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. McConnell trying to control the position from guard on top but Westlake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Westlake controls McConnell momentarily but McConnell frees himself. Westlake had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McConnell defends it easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Westlake pulls McConnell in close to prevent any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McConnell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Westlake has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McConnell has managed to get both his arms back between Westlake's legs - danger averted. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. McConnell stands and steps away. Westlake gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. McConnell tries to clinch but Westlake moves out of range. McConnell shoots in for a takedown but Westlake shows good takedown defense. Westlake swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice straight punches there by McConnell . You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of McConnell . McConnell moves into the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McConnell misses with a knee to the head. McConnell jumps guard but Westlake stands there with McConnell around his waist. McConnell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McConnell is working for takedown but Westlake is calmly controlling the position for now. Westlake breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Westlake will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. McConnell is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Westlake.
