PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Elinho Mineiro (ranked 1859 p4p, 1856 weight class) and Tsuyoi Kakuto (ranked 206 p4p, 205 weight class). Kakuto has chosen Gorillaz-Dirty Harry as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Elinho Mineiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Tsuyoi Kakuto!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kakuto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mineiro sprawls well initially but Kakuto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kakuto takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mineiro has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kakuto is working away from the top position though.
Kakuto is controlling the pace.
Mineiro trying to hold on to Kakuto's head to control him but Kakuto postures up.

Mineiro looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kakuto looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Kakuto tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mineiro knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mineiro wants to control but Kakuto is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Kakuto gets a double leg takedown into Mineiro's guard.
Mineiro keeping moving, preventing Kakuto from controlling successfully.

Mineiro is looking for a triangle here but Kakuto uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
What's Mineiro going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

Mineiro is looking to regain half guard here but Kakuto keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Mineiro's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mineiro looking for a sweep but Kakuto has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Kakuto cracks Mineiro with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Mineiro tries to hold on but Kakuto pushes him away.
Mineiro tries to control the position but Kakuto now has his back.

Kakuto is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Mineiro defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Kakuto gets his hands free as Mineiro looks to control.

Mineiro manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kakuto's guard. Nice work there by Mineiro.
Kakuto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mineiro manages to get himself to full guard.

My spies in Canucks Combat Club inform me that Kakuto has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Kakuto scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
I really don't envy Mineiro right now.

Kakuto is hanging on to Mineiro's back as he tries to escape.
Mineiro tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Mineiro just trying to survive but Kakuto is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Kakuto is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kakuto struggling to keep hold of the position.
Good control from Kakuto.
I really don't envy Mineiro right now.
Mineiro looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Mineiro can't escape the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mineiro rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Kakuto passes to side control.
Mineiro tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Kakuto easily slips into full mount!
Mineiro tries to reverse the position but Kakuto maintains control.
Kakuto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mineiro is just holding on here. Kakuto manages to take his back.
Tsuyoi Kakuto has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mineiro is trying to roll into a better position but Kakuto has get a rear naked choke and Mineiro is forced to tap out! This one is allllll over!
