Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Richard Mesquita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Charles E Boles!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mesquita tries for a takedown but Boles circles away easily
and Boles connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Mesquita clinches with his opponent.
Boles misses with the head strike.
Boles lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Boles pushes Mesquita back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Boles misses with a hook to the ribs.
Boles lands with a right to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boles scores with a shoulder strike.
Boles misses with a short punch on the inside.
Still in the clinch, Boles scores with a nice short uppercut.
Boles tries to throw a body punch but Mesquita avoids it by throwing Boles back against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Boles.
This has been an exciting period of action!
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Boles.
I was talking to Mesquita's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Boles tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Mesquita tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Boles just stands there and leans against the cage.
Mesquita prevents a body shot from Boles.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Mesquita.
Mesquita gets control of Boles's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mesquita will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mesquita looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Boles wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Mesquita's closed guard. He's half up but Mesquita has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Mesquita pivots and extends the arm, Boles falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Mesquita! Well done that man!
