Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pope Cozad (ranked 2954 p4p, 1979 weight class) and Dougie McFistface (ranked 377 p4p, 267 weight class). Cozad comes to the cage accompanied by Spirit In The Sky- Norman Greenbaum. McFistface has chosen Tiptoe Through The Tulips as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pope Cozad! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dougie McFistface! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Ben Hemmingworth and Chris Dean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McFistface clinches up against the cage. McFistface jumps into guard, dragging Cozad to the mat.
McFistface is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cozad trying to control but McFistface is working from the bottom. McFistface is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cozad stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McFistface swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cozad stands and throws McFistface's legs to the side, diving into side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McFistface trying to remain calm as Cozad controls from the top position. Cozad has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for McFistface! McFistface is trying to escape the mount.

McFistface is squirming around, avoiding Cozad's attempts to control the action. McFistface wants to hold on but Cozad pushes him away. McFistface tries to get back to half guard but can't. Cozad looking to control and managing it successfully. Cozad avoids the attempt from McFistface to control.

McFistface stops Cozad from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. McFistface is squirming around, avoiding Cozad's attempts to control the action. McFistface sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Cozad is keen to just control but McFistface is a slippery customer. McFistface wants to get back to full guard. Cozad is thwarting McFistface's attempts to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McFistface tries to roll over but Cozad keeps him under control. McFistface won't allow Cozad to pass to mount. Cozad is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McFistface sees it coming and defends easily. Cozad prevents McFistface from standing back up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Cozad is trying to control. McFistface wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. McFistface throws a right and a left that Cozad avoids nicely. McFistface closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cozad to the mat! Cozad manages to get full guard. McFistface throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cozad works some decent striking defense from the bottom. McFistface scoring with punches to the head and body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cozad has momentary wrist control but McFistface slips an elbow through the middle. McFistface missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. McFistface lands a couple of elbows. McFistface works over Cozad with some ground and pound from guard. Cozad keeping full guard, as McFistface tries to pass. Cozad looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

McFistface throws a big elbow that misses. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. McFistface connects with a couple of short punches. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw McFistface working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. McFistface working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. McFistface loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Dougie McFistface dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Cozad takes a kick to the side of the head. McFistface moves in looking to clinch but Cozad pushes him off. McFistface has been the more effective fighter overall so far. McFistface closes the distance and pushes Cozad back into the cage. McFistface is trying to trip Cozad. He has hold of a leg but Cozad is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. McFistface persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Cozad wants to sweep here but McFistface controlling him for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McFistface is working Cozad over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. McFistface tries to stand but Cozad is controlling from the bottom. McFistface looking to sit in guard and control but Cozad gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. McFistface tries to land a sweep but no joy. McFistface escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cozad gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. McFistface throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. McFistface working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cozad doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cozad manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Cozad looking to control the position here, rather than advance. McFistface manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cozad manages to get himself to full guard.
Cozad looking for a guillotine here but McFistface defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Cozad keeping moving, preventing McFistface from controlling successfully. Cozad is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Cozad not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cozad closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Cozad wants to take a breather but McFistface is having none of it. McFistface regains full guard. Nicely done. Cozad will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. McFistface is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cozad stands and throws McFistface's legs to the side, diving into side control. Dougie McFistface has got the better of the ground game so far. McFistface sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Cozad is thwarting McFistface's attempts to control the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cozad is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McFistface is just riding it out for now. Cozad eventually gives up the hold. McFistface looking for submissions from an awkward position here. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Dougie McFistface showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Cozad gets in close and instigates a clinch. McFistface wants the takedown. Cozad is fighting it off but McFistface persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cozad's guard against the cage. Cozad is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McFistface works a leg free and moves into half guard. McFistface looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cozad with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. McFistface is trying to work for a kimura but Cozad is defending well.
McFistface looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

McFistface slips a nice elbow through Cozad's hands, connecting with Cozad's forehead. McFistface decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Cozad checks the leg kick. Cozad takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. McFistface closes the distance and clinches. Cozad drags the fight down to the ground.
McFistface is in close to Cozad's body, working some short punches and elbows. McFistface trying to control the position from guard on top but Cozad is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McFistface preventing the sweep.

McFistface landing strikes from the mount. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cozad is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. McFistface lands a heavy elbow. McFistface postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Cozad looks a forlorn figure.

Dougie McFistface is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. McFistface controlling Cozad's posture. Pope Cozad has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Cozad content to stall in guard here. Cozad looking to pass the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. McFistface looking for a sweep. Not yet McFistface, not yet. McFistface is looking to stand back up but Cozad counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by McFistface. McFistface wants to control but Cozad is keeping busy and won't allow it. McFistface manages to get to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight! Dougie McFistface comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well McFistface has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
