Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Cortez (ranked 233 p4p, 218 weight class) and Haw Thorn (ranked 15 p4p, 13 weight class). Thorn has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Don Cortez! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 19 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Haw Thorn! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortez fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Thorn on the side of the head. Good shot there by Cortez. Thorn misses the jab. Cortez lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Cortez has his takedown stuffed and Thorn counters with a stiff right hand. Cortez fails to land with a series of punches.
Thorn let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Cortez scores with a jab to the body. Good standup being displayed there by Thorn as he connects with a hook. Cortez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Cortez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Thorn tries to avoid it but Cortez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Thorn to the ground. Thorn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Cortez misses with a left hand and Thorn connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Thorn slips a straight right by Cortez. Thorn has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Cortez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Thorn connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cortez scrambles back to his feet. Thorn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cortez.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cortez throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Thorn throws a head kick that misses. Thorn keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cortez. Thorn cracks a nice hook into Cortez's ribs. Cortez defending well as Thorn loads up on a big left hand. Cortez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thorn. Cortez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Thorn sprawls and moves away. Cortez misses with a hook
and Thorn counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Thorn connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cortez momentarily.
Nice straight punches there by Cortez. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cortez. Cortez throws a nice looking combination but Thorn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Cortez throws a poor cross that misses
and Thorn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Cortez is breathing heavily. Thorn slips a jab and a cross from Cortez.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Cortez dives in for a single leg takedown but Thorn sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. A little jabbing left from Thorn on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Don Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thorn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Cortez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Cortez looks to land a left hand but Thorn moved out of range nicely. Thorn lands with a thumping leg kick.
Cortez throws a body shot but no joy. Cortez lands a head shot. Cortez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Thorn manages to avoid it. Cortez with a body punch. A glancing blow. Thorn throws a body punch but Cortez moves out of range. Cortez swings away with a body shot that misses
and Thorn counters with a crisp one two that drops Cortez! Thorn thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Cortez to his feet! Cortez is in big trouble!
Cortez is rocked! Cortez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A swing and a miss from Cortez. Cortez throws a looping overhand right but Thorn ducks down to avoid it. Jab from Thorn. A looping hook to the body misses from Cortez. Thorn does a little dance to reset his feet. Cortez cracks Thorn with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Haw Thorn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cortez misses with a takedown and Thorn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Cortez throws the left hand but Thorn avoids the punch easily. A countering left hand to the body from Thorn misses. Thorn misses with the combination.
Don Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thorn throws a jab when Cortez was well out of range. Cortez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Thorn connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Cortez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Thorn throws a head kick but Cortez moves out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Thorn slips a jab from Cortez. Danga de danga de dang - Cortez scores with a four punch combination! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Haw Thorn will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Cortez shoots in and drives through. Thorn sprawls well. Thorn stuffs the takedown. Some wild striking there from Thorn.
Cortez attempts a counter takedown but Thorn avoids it well and moves away. Thorn dips to his left and cracks Cortez with an uppercut! Cortez connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Thorn looks to land a right hand but Cortez moved out of range. Cortez appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Cortez throws a wild combination but nothing lands. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thorn jabs Cortez to the body, keeping him at a distance. Thorn takes a swing at Cortez's ribcage but misses. Thorn looks to score with a jab to the body but Cortez is just out of range. Thorn connects with a looping right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thorn is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cortez. Thorn has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Thorn lands with a nice combination. Cortez backs away looking to recover.
It looks like Don Cortez has been cut. Thorn avoids the body shot from Cortez.

and Thorn counters with a right hand to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cortez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Thorn slips under a jab. Haw Thorn seems to be getting the better of the standup. Cortez misses with a hook. Thorn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cortez. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Don Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Thorn digs a good hook to Cortez's body.

Cortez moves away and avoids it. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Thorn lands a nice leg kick that just misses Cortez's sensitive parts. Cortez throws a lazy uppercut
and Thorn counters with a lovely straight right hand! Cortez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thorn moves away. A big right from Cortez misses. Thorn walks into a jab. Cortez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Thorn! Thorn sneaks out the side door and pushes Cortez away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Thorn scores with a jab to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A jab from Thorn does it's job there. Thorn takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Cortez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Thorn. Cortez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Thorn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Cortez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Thorn is pushing Cortez's head away, looking to escape. Cortez manages to hold on to the position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cortez trying to control the position but Thorn is working away. Thorn is trying to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cortez is looking to take a break and control but Thorn is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cortez connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Thorn some visible discomfort.
Haw Thorn has got the better of the ground game so far. Cortez prevents Thorn from escaping the position. Cortez misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Thorn is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cortez is controlling him well. The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup. Thorn tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Haw Thorn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Don Cortez's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Thorn slips a straight right by Cortez. Thorn only half commits to the counter leg kick. Cortez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Thorn's waist but Thorn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cortez off to one side. Thorn throws a good cross that connects.
Cortez loads up on a big right hand but Thorn slips the punch. Thorn works the jab nicely. Cortez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Thorn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Thorn fails to land with a series of punches.
Cortez misses with a wild body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cortez swings for the body but Thorn moves out of range.

Oh Cortez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Cortez keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Thorn. Cortez seems to have got his legs back now. Thorn swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cortez counters with a nice uppercut. Cortez misses with an uppercut. Thorn saw that one coming. Despite the aggression on Thorn's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. A good leg kick by Thorn. Cortez tries to bum rush Thorn with a series of wild strikes but Thorn uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Cortez misses with a hook to the body

That's three minutes gone in the round. Thorn ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Thorn lands a big head kick that sends Cortez tumbling to the mat! Thorn takes a step backwards and waves Cortez back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Don Cortez's cut is getting worse. Cortez throws a jab when Thorn was well out of range. Cortez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thorn was well out of range. Poor timing from Cortez. Thorn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Cortez lands a really nice looking cross but Thorn seems unphased.
Horrible takedown attempt by Cortez or perhaps it was just good defense by Thorn, which made it look bad. A nice leg kick lands there from Thorn. Cortez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Thorn lands with a shot to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cortez misses with a hook
and Thorn counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Cortez is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Thorn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cortez. Thorn drops Cortez with a beautiful combination! Cortez stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Thorn is looking for the KO! Cortez misses with a lunging right hand
and Thorn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Cortez gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Thorn points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Cortez wakes up just in time to hear Thorn thank his coaches in the post fight interview.
