The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simons throws an overhand right that lands on Mendez's shoulder, as Mendez tries to avoid the shot.
Simons looks to land a right hand but Mendez moved out of range.
Simons throws out a powerful jab.
Nice jab there from Simons.
Simons cracks Mendez with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Nice shot lands for Simons.
Mendez takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Simons jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Mendez looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Mendez glances at the clock... BAM! Simons nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Mendez crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Mendez is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

After winning the bout, Russ Simons thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
