PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Welter Weight (ranked 929 p4p, 553 weight class) and Bradley Rainey (ranked 132 p4p, 73 weight class). Weight comes to the cage accompanied by They say that I'm Crazy. On his way into the cage it seems that Welter Weight has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Welter Weight seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 43 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Welter Weight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Bradley Rainey!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rainey connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Rainey lands a really nice looking cross but Weight seems unphased.
Rainey throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Good exchange - Rainey coming out on top.

It looks like Welter Weight has been cut.
Rainey lands a jab to the nose.

Weight is rocked!
Weight throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rainey on the side of the head.
Oh Weight is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Weight looks to land a combination but Rainey avoids it well.

Weight tries to keep at a distance but Rainey has taken the fight into the clinch.
Weight seems to have got his legs back now.
Weight tries to circle away but Rainey has him pinned against the cage.
Weight takes a shot to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rainey makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
I was talking to Weight's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
A left hand lands to the body for Rainey.
Rainey misses with a short punch on the inside.

Rainey has picked Weight up - he's going for a ride! Rainey dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Weight manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Rainey keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Rainey looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Rainey gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Rainey prevents Weight from standing back up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rainey in particular looking to stall.
Rainey missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rainey thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Weight's head.
Weight keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rainey throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rainey sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Weight defending well though.
Rainey lands with a punch from half guard.
Rainey is trying to control. Weight wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Weight keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Weight avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rainey.
Still in half guard, Rainey seems content to control.
Rainey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Weight does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Weight tries to get to full guard but Rainey has control of the leg.

Rainey content to control rather than advance.
Rainey is looking to take a break and control but Weight is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rainey wants to control but Weight is keeping him busy.
Weight is looking for a sweep. Rainey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rainey is looking to advance position but Weight won't allow it.
Rainey works his way into side control.
Rainey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rainey works to advance to full mount. Weight defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Weight is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Weight in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Rainey scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Weight?

Welter Weight's cut is getting worse.

Rainey lands a couple of good shots and Weight has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Weight covering up well under a series of strikes from Rainey.
Rainey scoring with big shots to the body. Weight is looking for a way out. A despairing look towards the ref and the official steps in to stop the fight. Weight was obviously done but didn't want to tap out.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bradley Rainey!
Bradley Rainey bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
