PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Valen Dreth (ranked 305 p4p, 353 weight class) and Sergej Kersikov (ranked 45 p4p, 54 weight class). Kersikov has chosen Re-Style - I'm Alive as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Valen Dreth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergej Kersikov!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kersikov checks a leg kick nicely.
Kersikov is looking to score with low kicks.
Dreth lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Dreth shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kersikov defends it nicely.

Dreth gets the takedown into side control.
Kersikov is trying to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
An elbow from Dreth crashes against the mat.
Dreth remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kersikov seems a little lost for a moment, as Dreth dominates the positioning.

Dreth has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kersikov can't do much from the bottom here.
Kersikov wants to get back to his feet but Dreth drags him back down.
We've been hearing that Dreth has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Kersikov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Kersikov parries the strikes from Dreth easily there. Dreth is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kersikov to escape.
Kersikov is trying to control Dreth's posture but Dreth avoids it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kersikov is trying to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The ground and pound from Dreth seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dreth cracks Kersikov with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Dreth chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kersikov can pounce on him.
Dreth lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Dreth misses with a left hand
and Kersikov counters with an outside leg kick.
Dreth throws the left hand but Kersikov avoids the punch easily.
Dreth throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dreth throws an elbow that misses. Kersikov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dreth's guard. Nice move by Kersikov!

Kersikov is stalling in the full guard.

Dreth working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Kersikov has passed into half guard!

Well Dreth has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
