PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Elwyn Donal (ranked 133 p4p, 915 weight class) and Jack Crusher (ranked 16 p4p, 104 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Elwyn Donal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Crusher !
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick by Donal misses
and Crusher counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Crusher ducks under a wild hook from Donal.
Crusher with the counter takedown but Donal avoids it easily.
Donal lands a nice leg kick that just misses Crusher 's sensitive parts.
Donal throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Crusher tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Crusher moves out of range of the body kick.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Donal misses with a lunging right hand
and Crusher counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Donal throws a push kick but Crusher slaps the foot to one side.
Crusher avoids a kick to the body.
Crusher wants to counter with a clinch but Donal pushes him away.

Donal misses with a hook to the body

and Crusher counters with a nice double leg into side control. Donal won't be happy with that.

Crusher tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Crusher misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Crusher creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Donal sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Donal takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Crusher postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Crusher laying and praying for a moment but Donal takes advantage and regains half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Crusher connects with a nice short shot to Donal's temple.

Crusher thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Donal's head.
Crusher sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Donal defending well though.

Donal is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at League of Shadows MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Crusher has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Crusher is taking a breather. Donal says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Crusher looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Crusher with the ground and pound but Donal uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Donal ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Crusher moves away.
Crusher takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Crusher prevents Donal from improving his position.
Donal regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Crusher .

Crusher is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Donal is not content to let Crusher control the position.

Crusher is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Donal defends it well.

Crusher throws a strike but Donal avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Crusher is looking to pass into half guard but Donal pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Donal is in guard.

Crusher will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Crusher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Donal wants to control from the top but Crusher keeps moving.
Jack Crusher has got the better of the ground game so far.
Crusher wants to sweep but no luck.

Crusher working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Donal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Donal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Crusher has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Donal has passed into side control.
Donal takes a little break here. Crusher wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Crusher felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Donal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Crusher keeps working.
Crusher tries to get back to half guard but can't.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Donal is staying tight to Crusher 's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Crusher tries to bench press Donal off him but Donal keeps the position.
Donal trying to control the position but Crusher is working away.
Crusher is looking to reverse the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Crusher wants to control but Donal postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Donal swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Crusher throws an elbow that misses. Donal uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Crusher 's guard. Nice move by Donal!

Crusher has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Donal defend it? Crusher steps over the head and cranks it - Donal is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Crusher !
