Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samson Buddha (ranked 499 p4p, 1019 weight class) and Eric Riendeau (ranked 68 p4p, 132 weight class). Eric Riendeau acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samson Buddha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Riendeau!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Ben Hemmingworth and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buddha scores with a decent looking hook.
Buddha has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
A punch lands to the side of Riendeau 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Nice uppercut lands for Buddha. That snapped Riendeau's head back.
Riendeau fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Buddha looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Riendeau cracks a nice hook into Buddha's ribs.
Riendeau wants to clinch up but Buddha keeps it at a distance.
Riendeau has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Buddha.
Riendeau tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Buddha manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Buddha throws a big shot that misses.
Riendeau takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Riendeau tries to clinch up but Buddha circles away and keeps his distance.
Riendeau takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Riendeau misses the body punch

and Buddha counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Riendeau keeping moving, preventing Buddha from controlling successfully.
Buddha prevents Riendeau from getting back to his feet.
Riendeau is adopting a defensive guard.

Buddha works over Riendeau with some ground and pound from guard.
Buddha throwing strikes but missing.
Riendeau trying to control the position here.
Buddha pushes down on Riendeau's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Riendeau moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Riendeau wants to sweep here but Buddha controlling him for the moment.
Buddha content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Buddha looking to pass the guard.
Buddha throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Riendeau works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Riendeau looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Buddha with a nice head shot there.

Buddha drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Buddha jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Riendeau wants to sweep but no luck.
Buddha tries to free his leg and advance position but Riendeau is retaining full guard.
Riendeau lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Riendeau won't allow Buddha to sweep him here.
Riendeau must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Buddha has his foot on Riendeau's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riendeau works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Buddha is trying to keep Riendeau in close.
Riendeau sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Riendeau trying to control but Buddha is working from the bottom.
Riendeau trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Riendeau really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buddha. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Buddha escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Riendeau gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Buddha looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Riendeau content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Buddha has locked up a guillotine! Buddha's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Riendeau is holding on here and Buddha must be using up a lot of energy. Riendeau has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Buddha gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Samson Buddha!
