Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Gracie (ranked 928 p4p, 1137 weight class) and Rufus Rutger (ranked 50 p4p, 162 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Rutger's choice of entrance music: Wardance. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anderson Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rufus Rutger! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie shoots in and drives through. Rutger sprawls well. Rutger cracks Gracie with a right hand to the side of the head. Rutger has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Rutger throws a right hand that misses
and Gracie counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Rutger lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Gracie takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Gracie keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rutger. Rutger stuffs the takedown. Gracie on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Rutger connects with a leg kick. Rutger tests Gracie's chin there with a solid looking shot. Gracie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rutger dips to his left and cracks Gracie with an uppercut! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rutger sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracie lands the left hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rutger manages to avoid it. Gracie misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A punch lands to the side of Rutger 's head but he takes it in his stride. Rufus Rutger is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rutger fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Gracie looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Rutger scores with the left hand. Gracie knows he should have avoided that one. Rutger shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gracie as he jumps to the side. Rutger looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range. Rutger lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Rutger scores with a leg kick.
Rutger blocks a jab. Gracie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Gracie throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Gracie doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Rutger connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rutger leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rutger will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. A telegraphed right hand from Gracie misses the target. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rutger! But no joy. Rutger scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Gracie takes a swing at Rutger's ribcage but misses. Gracie throws a hook but Rutger avoids it easily. Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Rutger looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Rutger pulls Gracie in close to his closed guard and prevents Gracie from doing any damage or advancing position. Gracie working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Gracie lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Gracie won't allow Rutger to sweep him here. Gracie throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Gracie postures up in Rutger's guard and throws a big left but Rutger blocks it. Gracie distracts Rutger with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Gracie content to stall in guard here. Rutger is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Rutger trying to control the position here. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rutger is trying to hold Gracie in close to prevent damage but Gracie has managed to pass into half guard.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gracie landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Gracie drops an elbow to the side of Rutger's head. Rutger wants to control the action here but instead Gracie manages to pass to full mount! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gracie cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Gracie trying to control but he's not successful this time. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Anderson Gracie will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Rutger misses with a right hand and Gracie makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Rutger scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gracie in his tracks. Rutger swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rutger dips to his left and cracks Gracie with an uppercut! Rutger lands a jab to the head.
Gracie shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rutger does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Gracie perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rutger is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rutger taking some punishment here, with Gracie in his half guard. Gracie is trying to control. Rutger wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Rutger trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gracie trying to control from half guard but Rutger is working away. Gracie lands with a punch from half guard. Gracie is controlling the pace.
Gracie lands strikes from half guard. Gracie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rutger does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Rutger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gracie working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Rutger's thigh. Rutger counters though and makes it back to full guard. Rutger trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie lands a couple of decent looking shots. Gracie is stalling in the full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Gracie trying to control but Rutger is working from the bottom.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Rufus Rutger seems to be getting the better of the standup. Rutger waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gracie. Rutger cracks Gracie with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt. A nice inside leg kick there by Rutger. That's going to slow Gracie down. Gracie throws out a powerful jab. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gracie looks for the body kick but Rutger saw that one coming. Gracie slips a straight right by Rutger. Gracie swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Rutger with the inside leg kick. Rutger with the inside leg kick. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Rufus Rutger will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round! Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rutger sprawls well. Rutger wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet. Gracie throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Rutger scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Gracie on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rutger. Rutger obviously looking to wear him down.
Rutger moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Gracie is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Rutger sizes up Gracie with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rutger connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Rutger jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Rutger clobbers Gracie with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. That kick from Rutger tenderised Gracie's leg. Gracie is trying to keep his angry face on. Gracie swinging wildly here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie just misses with a punch to the body.
Rutger rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Gracie counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Rutger scores with a leg kick.
Rutger keeps Gracie at a distance using the push kick. Gracie chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rutger can pounce on him.
Rutger throws a quick inside leg kick. A nice inside leg kick there by Rutger. That's going to slow Gracie down. Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rutger's waist but Rutger gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anderson Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rutger turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. A nice leg kick lands there from Rutger. Gracie takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A nice inside leg kick there by Rutger. That's going to slow Gracie down. Gracie drops his hands momentarily and Rutger takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gracie misses with a straight left.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rutger thumps Gracie with a low kick. Rutger throws a hook to the side of Gracie's head but Gracie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Gracie thuds his right hand into Rutger's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Rutger keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Rutger connects with a leg kick. Rutger with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Gracie throws a big shot that misses. Rutger throws a nice outside leg kick. Gracie listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Rutger lands a really nice looking cross but Gracie seems unphased.
Gracie's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rutger connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Gracie scrambles back to his feet. Gracie has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Rutger. Rutger takes one on the button.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie misses the shot to the body. Gracie takes a jab right on the kisser.
Gracie defending well as Rutger loads up on a big left hand. Gracie is looking to counter punch. Rutger lands with a hook. Gracie tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Rutger scores with a nice right hand.
Gracie stuffs the takedown. Gracie half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Gracie throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rutger sees it coming and avoids it easily. Nice takedown defense from Rutger. No joy for Gracie on that attempt. Gracie takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Rutger ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Jab by Gracie. Rutger scores with a jab. Gracie acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Gracie looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Rutger cracks Gracie with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gracie slips under a jab from Rutger. Rutger displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gracie throws out the jab.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rutger lands a jab. Rutger lands a nice leg kick that just misses Gracie's sensitive parts. Rutger looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range. Rutger connects with a leg kick. Rutger misses with a body punch
and Gracie counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Rutger cracks Gracie with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Gracie tests Rutger's chin there with a solid looking shot. Rutger swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Rutger throws a jab but it's blocked by Gracie. Gracie takes a head kick and keeps coming.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. A swing and a miss from Gracie. Gracie tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rutger finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
And that's the end of the fight! Rufus Rutger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Rutger has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
