Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Gurgel (ranked 97 p4p, 366 weight class) and Jan Siuta (ranked 17 p4p, 57 weight class). Siuta is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Rock Superstar" Cypress Hill. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabio Gurgel! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jan Siuta! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gurgel tries to clinch up. Siuta let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Gurgel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Siuta lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Jab, jab by Gurgel - just one landing. Siuta defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gurgel. It seemed like Siuta was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. We've been informed that Siuta has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Gurgel has closed the distance and engaged Siuta in a clinch.
Gurgel is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Siuta to keep the fight standing. Gurgel is trying to pull guard but Siuta turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fabio Gurgel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Siuta misses with a punch on the inside.
Siuta tries to work over Gurgel's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Siuta misses with a hook from the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gurgel is trying to pull guard but Siuta has him pressed against the cage. Gurgel ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gurgel no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Gurgel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Siuta doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Siuta manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Gurgel working a defensive guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gurgel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Siuta wants to improve his position but Gurgel is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gurgel is looking for a kimura but Siuta is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gurgel to get the leverage. Gurgel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Siuta does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are battling for position here. Siuta manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Siuta looking for a sweep. Not yet Siuta, not yet. Gurgel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Siuta swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gurgel trying to control the position from guard on top but Siuta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gurgel advances to half guard. Siuta is trying to get back to full guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Siuta can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Siuta trying to hold on to Gurgel's head to control him but Gurgel postures up.
Gurgel is pressing down on Siuta's thigh, looking to free his foot. Siuta is holding on for now. Gurgel is stalling here. Siuta is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Gurgel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Siuta has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Siuta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gurgel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gurgel sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Gurgel actively working from the bottom here.

Siuta has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gurgel to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Siuta is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gurgel pulls down on the head and he's put Siuta to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Fabio Gurgel! Fabio Gurgel retains his light heavyweight title!
