Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricardo Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Hunter Broderick !
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruz feints and as Broderick raises his hands in defense, Cruz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Broderick is pulling down on Cruz's head. It's preventing any offense from Cruz, at least for the moment.
Cruz postures up and lands a big shot to Broderick 's brow.
Cruz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Broderick wants to stand and escape but Cruz is having none of it.
We've been hearing that Cruz has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Broderick has control of Cruz's left arm, preventing Cruz from doing any damage.

Broderick wants to sweep here but Cruz controlling him for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cruz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Broderick tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cruz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Broderick is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Cruz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Cruz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Broderick is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Cruz tries to move to mount but Broderick blocks the move with his legs.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Broderick can't do much from the bottom here.

Cruz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Cruz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cruz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Broderick tries to buck Cruz off but Cruz is having none of it.
Broderick prevents Cruz from moving into mount.
Cruz trying to control the position but Broderick is working away.

Broderick manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Broderick manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Broderick is retaining full guard.
Broderick pulls Cruz in close to his closed guard and prevents Cruz from doing any damage or advancing position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Broderick is looking for a sweep. Cruz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Cruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cruz wants to take a breather but Broderick is having none of it.
Broderick is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cruz's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cruz's back!

Cruz breaks Broderick 's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Broderick is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cruz distracts Broderick with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Broderick is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Cruz dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Broderick lands a jab to the head.

It looks like Ricardo Cruz has been cut.
Broderick leaves Cruz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Broderick stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Broderick wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Broderick cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cruz dives in and grabs Broderick 's left leg, looking for a takedown. Broderick pushes down on Cruz's head and hops out.
Ricardo Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cruz shoots for a double leg takedown but Broderick sprawls well. He's pushed Cruz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Broderick missing with a left hand there. Cruz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Broderick counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Cruz is rocked!

Broderick closes the distance and lands a brutal uppercut that knocks Cruz out! We're looking at the replay now - he was out before he hit the floor!
