PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Durling (ranked 716 p4p, 1276 weight class) and Panagiotis Nikolau (ranked 31 p4p, 46 weight class). Durling comes to the cage accompanied by BABYMETAL - KARATE. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Durling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Panagiotis Nikolau!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikolau misses with a right hand
and Durling counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Nikolau thinking.
Nikolau walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Durling checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Durling feinted with a counter takedown.
Nikolau misses the body punch
and Durling counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nikolau swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Durling slips a straight right by Nikolau.
A little feinted left hand from Durling on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Durling loads up on a big right hand but Nikolau slips the punch.
Nikolau throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nikolau looks to throw a body kick
and Durling counters with a nice uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Durling slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Nikolau misses with a right hand
and Durling counters with a takedown into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Durling is trying to get an arm triangle but Nikolau is defending well.
Durling misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Nikolau tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Durling wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Durling in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Nikolau is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nick Durling!
Nick Durling decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
