Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Mendez (ranked 809 p4p, 1005 weight class) and Shane Lancaster (ranked 48 p4p, 58 weight class). Lancaster has chosen Slipknot - I Am Hated as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shane Lancaster! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Sam Margolis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lancaster moves out of range as Mendez strikes. Lancaster has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Mendez finds it's way round the side to connect with Lancaster's head.
It looks like Shane Lancaster has been cut. Mendez gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lancaster. Mendez gets caught napping as Lancaster dives in and scores a takedown. Mendez manages to retain guard. Mendez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lancaster. Mendez is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Lancaster throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendez works some decent striking defense from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lancaster throwing strikes from guard but Mendez blocks nicely. Lancaster lands a couple of digs. Lancaster being controlled here momentarily. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lancaster looking to pass the guard. Lancaster is stalling in the full guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mendez takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Lancaster cracks a nice hook into Mendez's ribs. Mendez misses with a looping left. Lancaster scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lancaster tries to advance to mount but Mendez denies him. Mendez can't do much from the bottom here. Lancaster lands a decent elbow from side control. Mendez is not content to let Lancaster control the position. Mendez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lancaster on the ground. Lancaster in side control, throwing shots but Mendez defends. Lancaster wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendez keeps working. Mendez gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Lancaster trying to pass the guard but Mendez defending well. Lancaster with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Mendez wants to get back to full guard. Lancaster throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Lancaster stops Mendez from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mendez gets full guard. Lancaster preventing the sweep. Lancaster passes Mendez's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lancaster is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Lancaster looking to finish with strikes here!
Lancaster is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mendez can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Lancaster avoids the attempt from Mendez to control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lancaster wants to control the pace but Mendez is squirming around nicely. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Shane Lancaster dominated that round. The cut man is working on Shane Lancaster's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Mendez misses with a right hand letting Lancaster counter with a right hand. Lancaster swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Mendez. Mendez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lancaster pinned against the cage. Lancaster gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Mendez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lancaster bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Lancaster wants to control but Mendez is keeping him busy. Lancaster gets to mount! Mendez was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lancaster lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Lancaster is landing with some decent strikes but Mendez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Lancaster landing strikes from the mount and Mendez is in trouble! Lancaster content just to control the position here. Lancaster raining down shots from the mount! Lancaster fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Lancaster looking to control but Mendez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Lancaster cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mendez reaches up and holds on to Lancaster to control the position. The referee warns Mendez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Lancaster lands a heavy elbow. Lancaster controlling the pace for now. Lancaster cracks Mendez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Lancaster has been the more effective fighter overall so far. A nice elbow there by Lancaster. Mendez is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lancaster connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Lancaster breaks from Mendez's wrist control and lands an elbow. Mendez is desperately trying to improve his position but Lancaster has a good base and remains in mount. Lancaster has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mendez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Mendez really wants to buck Lancaster off and get back to his feet. Mendez tries to lock up and control but Lancaster gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. BOOM! Lancaster connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Mendez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Lancaster looking to finish Mendez with some ground and pound. This is bad for Mendez!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lancaster looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Mendez covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
