Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ian Carter (ranked 481 p4p, 921 weight class) and Nakagome Kakuzo (ranked 66 p4p, 130 weight class). Carter comes to the cage accompanied by “Shipping up to Boston” Dropkick Murphy’s. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ian Carter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nakagome Kakuzo! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Eliza Hachem and Francis DeMontford.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kakuzo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carter is fending him off so far but Kakuzo persists. Nope, Carter circles away and we're back to standing. Kakuzo throws a lazy head kick and Carter counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. A telegraphed right hand from Carter misses the target. Nakagome Kakuzo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kakuzo lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Carter crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kakuzo - the referee stops the clock and Carter gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kakuzo. Carter manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. A big left from Carter misses. Kakuzo doesn't succeed with the takedown and Carter connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Kakuzo throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kakuzo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Kakuzo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Carter pushes Kakuzo off and gets back to his feet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kakuzo moves in looking to clinch but Carter pushes him off. Carter appears to be looking for a big counter. Kakuzo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carter moves away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kakuzo smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Kakuzo throws a poor cross that misses
and Carter cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Nice jab there from Kakuzo. Kakuzo fails with the takedown. Ian Carter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nakagome Kakuzo. Kakuzo shoots in for a double leg but Carter sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Carter swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Kakuzo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Carter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Kakuzo!
Kakuzo misses with a takedown attempt and Carter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Carter plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kakuzo tries to clinch up but Carter circles away and keeps his distance. Carter slaps away a takedown attempt from Kakuzo, before circling back to the center of the mat. Ian Carter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carter missing with a left hand there. Kakuzo was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Carter pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Carter's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Kakuzo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Carter scrambles back to his feet. Kakuzo throws a leg kick but Carter sees it coming and moves out of range. Kakuzo misses with a hook to the body
and Carter counters with a straight right hand.
It looks like Nakagome Kakuzo has been cut. Kakuzo misses with a takedown attempt and Carter counters with a stiff right hand.
Kakuzo is rocked! Kakuzo darts in looking for a takedown but Carter gets double underhooks and turns Kakuzo into the cage. Kakuzo is still on wobbly legs! Can Carter finish him? Kakuzo throws a hook but Carter avoids it easily. Kakuzo seems to have recovered his senses. Carter lands with a cross. The fighters circling - Kakuzo throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Kakuzo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Kakuzo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Kakuzo with a lazy takedown attempt and Carter connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kakuzo scores with a nice head shot. Carter moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Kakuzo clinches up with Carter and pushes him back against the cage. Carter lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. A shot in the inside from Carter. Kakuzo working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Carter lands with a left to the head. Carter pushes Kakuzo back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Carter lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Kakuzo or not. Kakuzo looks winded! Kakuzo is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Carter works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Carter lands with a short head shot on the inside. A short left from Carter. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A right hand to the body from Carter.
Carter's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Carter cracks Kakuzo with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Carter has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Kakuzo to stand back up! Kakuzo misses with a takedown attempt and Carter counters with a good low kick that Kakuzo was not able to check.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kakuzo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carter lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Kakuzo up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Carter from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Kakuzo's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ian Carter! Ian Carter seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
