PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tadahiro Nomura (ranked 327 p4p, 492 weight class) and Marcus Shakes (ranked 21 p4p, 39 weight class). Nomura comes to the cage accompanied by Nomura. The crowd seem to be enjoying Shakes's choice of entrance music: About the Money- T.I.. Tadahiro Nomura has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tadahiro Nomura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Shakes!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shakes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shakes connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
We've been hearing reports that Nomura has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Shakes keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Shakes. Nomura does a little dance to reset his feet.
Shakes swings widly with a right hand
and Nomura counters with a left to the body.
Shakes throws a shot from downtown. Nomura moves away and avoids it.

Nomura fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shakes sprawls well initially but Nomura persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Nomura wants to work for an arm triangle but Shakes is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Shakes felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Shakes looks to land a left hand but Nomura moved out of range nicely.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tadahiro Nomura overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Shakes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nomura has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shakes has managed to get both his arms back between Nomura's legs - danger averted.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close second round but I would say that Tadahiro Nomura will probably get the nod.

Nomura shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shakes's guard.

Nomura will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Nomura lunges at Shakes with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Shakes's hand.

Marcus Shakes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Shakes closes the distance and pushes Nomura back into the cage.

Nomura manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Nomura has his feet on Shakes's thighs here. He's pushed Shakes off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Shakes screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

A relieved looking Tadahiro Nomura thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Marcus Shakes stepped up to the mic, saying 'Maybe its time to hang it up and coach'.
