Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Babcock (ranked 194 p4p, 266 weight class) and Julian Avila (ranked 27 p4p, 39 weight class). Babcock comes to the cage accompanied by San Francisco Live Medley. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Babcock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Julian Avila! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Babcock slips a straight right by Avila. Babcock appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Avila scores with a shot to the body.
Avila just misses with a punch to the body.
Babcock drops down looking for a counter takedown but Avila sprawls and moves away. Avila avoids a kick to the body.
And Avila responds with a good body kick, but Babcock manages to step out the way in time. Nice shot lands for Avila. A solid body kick from Avila. A bone on bone clash there as Babcock blocks the leg kick.
Avila has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Babcock is landing a low percentage of strikes. Avila throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Avila throws a leg kick but Babcock sees it coming and moves out of range. Babcock takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avila connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Babcock's hands. Babcock throws a looping overhand right but Avila ducks down to avoid it. A shot to the liver by Avila. Beautiful body shot. That's one minute gone in the round. Babcock takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Avila throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Avila thuds his shin into the meat of Babcock's side. Babcock on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Avila. Avila obviously looking to wear him down.

Babcock throws a lazy right hand but Avila sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Avila throws a nice outside leg kick. A low kick from Babcock is predictable there and Avila counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters. Avila connects with a single shot there. Babcock avoids a kick to the body.
Babcock gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Babcock throws out a loose jab but Avila uses good head movement to avoid it. Babcock looks to land a left hand but Avila moved out of range nicely. Avila follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Avila jabs Babcock to the body, keeping him at a distance. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Avila just misses with a punch to the body.
A left lands for Avila. Avila lands a nice leg kick that just misses Babcock's sensitive parts. Babcock on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Avila. Avila obviously looking to wear him down.
Avila keeps Babcock at a distance using the push kick. Julian Avila seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Avila lands with a straight right. Babcock didn't see that one coming. Avila throws a hook but Babcock avoids it easily. Avila on the wrong end of a nice jab. Avila fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Babcock has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Avila throws a body punch but Babcock moves out of range. Babcock misses with an uppercut. Avila saw that one coming. A looping hook to the body misses from Avila. Babcock does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avila lands with a cross. Avila chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Babcock takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Babcock. Donk. Avila catches Babcock right on the button with a cross. Babcock will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Babcock throws a hook but Avila blocks it. A leg kick checked by Avila. Avila steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Avila with a nice calf kick. Avila connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Avila is looking to score with low kicks. Avila takes a swing at Babcock's ribcage but misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Babcock drives through with a takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Babcock trying to control but Avila is working from the bottom. Babcock working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Babcock trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Babcock wants to control from the top but Avila keeps moving. Avila has momentary wrist control but Babcock slips an elbow through the middle. Babcock throwing strikes from guard but Avila blocks nicely. Babcock connects with a couple of short punches. Avila is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Babcock throws a big elbow that misses. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Julian Avila dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Avila fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Babcock on the side of the head. Babcock is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Babcock misses with a looping left. Babcock pivots, looking for a leg kick but Avila is out of range and Babcock settles back down. Julian Avila seems to be getting the better of the standup. Avila wants to slow Babcock down by chopping away at his legs. Babcock changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. A head kick misses from Babcock. Avila swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Avila scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. A nice inside leg kick there by Avila. That's going to slow Babcock down. A looping hook to the body misses from Babcock. Avila does a little dance to reset his feet. Babcock shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Avila manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Babcock is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Babcock is fighting to break Avila's control of his arms but Avila is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Avila is continuing to stall. Babcock wants to control from the top but Avila keeps moving. Babcock with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Babcock throwing strikes but missing. Babcock throws a big elbow that misses. Babcock trying to control but Avila is working from the bottom. Babcock throwing strikes but missing. Avila working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Babcock. Babcock distracts Avila with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Avila controlling Babcock's posture. Avila keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Avila can't keep his opponent in guard - Babcock advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Babcock uses his free foot to push down on Avila's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Avila. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Babcock lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Babcock cracks Avila with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Babcock looking to finish Avila with some ground and pound. This is bad for Avila! Avila wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Babcock.
Babcock is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Avila to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Avila shrugs it off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Babcock putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Babcock has control of Avila's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Avila regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Babcock throwing strikes here but Avila is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Babcock looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Avila tries to reverse the position but Babcock maintains control. Avila wants to control but Babcock is having none of it. Avila is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Babcock dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round! A slow jab from Avila misses its intended target. A big left from Avila misses. Babcock attempts a counter takedown but Avila avoids it well and moves away. Babcock steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Avila. Avila works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Avila misses the jab. Babcock feinted with a counter takedown. Both fighters circling a little - Avila finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. A solid leg kick lands there for Avila.
Avila throws a leg kick and Babcock counters with a nice double leg into side control. Avila won't be happy with that. Avila really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Babcock. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Avila gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Babcock punishing his opponent with strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! Babcock scoring with strikes but Avila is staying in there. Avila wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Babcock.
That's one minute gone in the round. Babcock throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage. Avila tries to reverse the position but Babcock maintains control. Babcock wants to control the pace but Avila is squirming around nicely. Babcock sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Babcock fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Babcock landing punches. Babcock looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Babcock wants to control the pace but Avila is squirming around nicely. Babcock is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Avila is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Babcock throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Babcock trying to control but he's not successful this time. Babcock breaks from Avila's wrist control and lands an elbow. Babcock looking to finish Avila with some ground and pound. This is bad for Avila! Babcock lands with some strikes. Babcock goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Avila turns into him and now he's in Babcock's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Avila is sitting in close to Babcock's body. Babcock has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Avila is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Avila is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Babcock.
