Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 196 p4p, 164 weight class) and Oscar Blaydes (ranked 24 p4p, 21 weight class). Blaydes has chosen Black Sunshine - White Zombie as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 23 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Oscar Blaydes!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rome looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rome shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Blaydes pinned against the cage. Blaydes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Blaydes is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Rome with a body shot.
Blaydes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Curtis Rome. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rome feints and as Blaydes raises his hands in defense, Rome changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Blaydes has control of Rome's left arm, preventing Rome from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rome is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Blaydes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Blaydes has escaped and now he's on top!

Blaydes landing some decent shots from guard.
Rome is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Rome is looking for a kimura here.

Rome is trying a forearm choke I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Blaydes is defending against the submission attempts here by Rome.

Rome is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Blaydes is just riding it out for now. Rome eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rome is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Blaydes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rome.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Rome tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Blaydes swivels and escapes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blaydes lands with a hook. Rome tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Rome misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Rome takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Blaydes pivots, looking for a leg kick but Rome is out of range and Blaydes settles back down.
Blaydes misses with a body shot
and Rome counters with a nice uppercut.
Nice takedown defense from Blaydes. No joy for Rome on that attempt.
Rome doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Blaydes counters with a slapping leg kick.
Blaydes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rome was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Rome fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Blaydes avoids it really well and circles away.
Blaydes steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Rome.
Blaydes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Blaydes wants it to stay on the feet.

Rome takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Blaydes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rome fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Rome takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rome is trying to drag Blaydes to the mat but Blaydes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Rome blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Blaydes throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Romes head.
A short body shot lands from Blaydes as the two fighters clinch.
Rome can't get the takedown.
Blaydes lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Rome is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Blaydes doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oscar Blaydes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

It seemed like Blaydes was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Blaydes slaps away a takedown attempt from Rome, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Blaydes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rome was well out of range. Poor timing from Blaydes.

Rome closes the distance and clinches up with Blaydes, looking for a takedown. Rome pushes Blaydes against the cage but Blaydes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Rome fails to land the takedown.
Rome closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Blaydes lands with an uppercut that bounces Rome off the cage and back into range.
Blaydes connects with an inside leg kick.
Blaydes takes a swing at Rome's ribcage but misses.
Rome throwing a counter right hand but Blaydes manages to avoid it.

Rome changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Blaydes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rome wants to pass the guard but Blaydes is keeping the position.

Rome drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Blaydes dives on top into guard.


Rome looking for subs off his back but Blaydes has passed one foot through into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rome wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Blaydes stalling.
Rome on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Blaydes perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Blaydes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Blaydes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rome knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Rome is looking for a sweep. Blaydes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rome wants to get back to full guard but Blaydes has mounted him!
Rome is squirming around, avoiding Blaydes's attempts to control the action.
Rome is looking to improve his position but Blaydes isn't that keen on the idea.

And that's the end of the fight!
Oscar Blaydes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Blaydes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
