Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kawainui Perry (ranked 88 p4p, 433 weight class) and Nakagome Kakuzo (ranked 15 p4p, 63 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kawainui Perry! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nakagome Kakuzo! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kakuzo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Perry is fending him off so far but Kakuzo persists. Nope, Perry circles away and we're back to standing. Kakuzo is looking to land body kicks. Kakuzo lands a leg kick that knocks Perry off balance momentarily. Perry moves away from the strike by Kakuzo. Nice body kick from Kakuzo. A nice leg kick lands there from Perry. Decent striking displayed by Kakuzo there. Perry avoids the head kick by Kakuzo.
Kakuzo scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Kakuzo has his takedown stuffed and Perry cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Kakuzo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. This has been an exciting period of action! Kakuzo throws an elbow but Perry slips to the side and avoids it well. Perry is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kakuzo connects with a decent elbow. Perry defending against the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. The strikes coming from Kakuzo are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Perry stuck in half guard on the bottom here. Kakuzo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perry, who protects the arm well. Kakuzo working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Kakuzo is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Perry's shoulder. That is not cool. Kakuzo lands a nice forearm strike. Kakuzo scoring with punches and elbows. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kakuzo throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Perry manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Perry tries to roll over but Kakuzo keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kakuzo scoring with strikes to the body and head. Perry keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Kakuzo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Perry's head. Kakuzo sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Perry defending well though. Perry is trying to maintain the position but Kakuzo is very close to passing his half guard. Kakuzo throwing shots but Perry is blocking nicely. Kakuzo is trying to control. Perry wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Perry avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kakuzo. Kakuzo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Perry blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kakuzo. Kakuzo winds up and cracks Perry with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Kakuzo with the ground and pound but Perry uses the opportunity to regain guard. Kakuzo throws an elbow that misses. Perry uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kakuzo's guard. Nice move by Perry!

That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Kakuzo manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Perry won't allow Kakuzo to sweep him here. Perry slips nicely into half guard. Kakuzo has a hand on Perry's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Perry takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Kakuzo really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Kakuzo has given up his back here.
Perry gets his hands free as Kakuzo looks to control. Perry has the hooks in. Kakuzo is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Nakagome Kakuzo dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Perry throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Kakuzo misses with a straight left. Kakuzo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Perry fires out a quick counter leg kick but Kakuzo just manages to avoid it. Kakuzo throws a good cross that connects.
Kakuzo defending well as Perry loads up on a big left hand. Kakuzo has a takedown stuffed. Kakuzo lands a leg kick that knocks Perry off balance momentarily. Kakuzo swings and misses with a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Perry keeps Kakuzo at a distance using the push kick. Kakuzo finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Kakuzo has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Kakuzo fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Perry is out of range. Perry was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. Perry throws a wild body kick that Kakuzo sees coming a mile off. Perry throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perry lands a slapping body shot.
Perry cracks Kakuzo with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Kakuzo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Perry's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kakuzo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Kakuzo with a flurry of punches that miss. Kakuzo stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Perry throws up his legs and catches Kakuzo in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Kakuzo tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Perry! That came out of nowhere!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Kawainui Perry! Kawainui Perry retains his welterweight title! During a confident post fight interview, Kawainui Perry thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
